Jaguar Italy trims out a special XKR in... plaid Alcantara?!

Apr 17th 2011 5:31PM (Autoblog)
I don't think it necessarily cheapens the interior--the pattern is different from a Golf plaid, more like something from a suit. Texture is very different, which is what makes plaid seem cheap to begin with.

I just think they went too far. Armrest is fine, but doing the whole lower center console area just makes it clash with the dash. Having the whole headliner covered is overkill too. Maybe if it was a darker color it'd work.

"IDK why they would show a it as an Toyota.... then badge it as a scion ??"

Because the second concept was unveiled at the Geneva, and Europe doesn't have the Scion brand.

Indeed, $12.5k seems like a pittance considering the possible damage it did to Ford.

I'm scratching my head at this too. Double the horsepower and it's faster than a GT-R=surprise? Now if it could out-zig Godzilla, that'd be something else...

Should've shown him smoldering while stuck at the 10 and 405 freeway interchange in his ragtop.

Opinion: Time to raise the speed limit, how does 150 MPH sound?

Apr 11th 2011 8:05PM (Autoblog)
@k.w.a. And I think the article is oversimplifying by saying the difference in speeds is what causes accidents. You cannot expect a big-rig truck hauling a bunch of cars to go 85 mph.

Take the autobahn--where there's no speed limits, people aren't all zipping by at 100 mph. There can be substantial speed differences, because a cab driver isn't going to be pushing the performance envelope like a C63 AMG Black would be. So why aren't their giant pileups? Because it's not so much the speed or speed difference, but driver awareness, and common sense.

In Europe, keeping off the fast lane if you're going slow is the law. Here in the US, people saunter into the fast lane going 50 mph. Speed differences will always exist, and in fact are essential for safety. It's unsafe for some vehicles to go 85 mph. The key is people being aware of the speed differences, rather than blindly changing lanes without using turn signals (which is like 80% of drivers in the bay area).

I think you're misunderstanding speed limits though. Whether it's 120mph or 55mph, the driver should be going the speed that's safe for the vehicle. Just because it's 120mph doesn't mean every car has to go 120mph, including a Uhaul lugging furniture. It's the maximum speed limit, which means you can go up to that speed, but don't necessarily need to maintain it.

As far as poor roads are concerned, then just have the limit lower there. On a wide-open, well-paved freeway, 80 mph is safe. 70mph seems arbitrary when going down an empty straight stretch of the I-5.

Is this the facelifted 2012 Jaguar XF?

This looks a lot better than the monocle lights. Looks like the original concept, albeit less aggressive.

Sorry but I don't get this Hyundai-philia going on. Yes, the Sonata looks awesome, and blows the rest of the mid-size competition away. The new Elantra isn't pretty, and that Veloster is atrocious.

This design is much less memorable and bold than the concept, but it's still a pleasant-looking car. I think the biggest disappointment are the rear lights. The concept had them more aggressively angled and wedge-shaped, which matched the front headlights. The production light looks decidely pedestrian, and takes away from the whole car. The thing that bugs are those front fender flair-arches. They're more "bubbly" than the concept, which makes em odd-looking and not very sporty.
