The best HD sports on TV this week

Oct 15th 2009 3:24PM (Engadget HD)
Though it makes me sad that the Bears are probably going to lose, I will definitely be watching that game.

Ask Engadget HD: Best home theater setup for gaming?

I assume you're being sarcastic. I wasn't aware this was a "my P3N!$ is bigger than yours" competition. He wanted a suggestion for a home theater, so I gave him a budget option. Not everyone is interested in spending $10,000 on a full system. As for his need for a $1000 - $2000 TV, a VIERA is perfect.

I can't in good conscience recommend anything but a Panasonic VIERA plasma. There's just nothing like them. LCDs are a joke. As for sound, if you wanna save money you can't go wrong with an Onkyo HTIB.

Technically no movies were ever black and white. They're all grayscale. ;) Could you imagine watching something with only the colors black and white? Talk about trippy.

Poll: Would you rather see live 1080p or high quality 3D from your cable / satellite provider?

Oct 5th 2009 9:54AM (Engadget HD)
Nope, you're definitely not the only one who avoids 3D. I don't think it adds much to the experience and the glasses are annoying (I wear my contacts when I go see movies just so I don't have to wear glasses). It doesn't seem to be 3D enough for me if that makes any sense. I always find myself thinking "I guess it's sort of popping out at me.". Plus, you can always tell that a movie was made for 3D even when you're not watching the 3D version because there is always those stupid scenes where they have something fly at the screen for no reason. It adds nothing when you're not watching it in 3D and just looks out of place.

Who gives a crap about 3D and I'd rather see totally UNcompressed 720p than compressed 1080 any day of the week.

ASUS ships $100 O!Play HDP-R1 HD media streamer

I've still not found a file that my PCH A-100 can't play. For my money, any of the PCH devices and the newly released (though not yet available anywhere) QNAP NMP-1000 seem to be the top choices.

This thing looks beautiful, and the interface is also slick. As far as aesthetics goes, this thing beats the crap outta the PCH devices (love my PCH A-100).

Blu-ray releases on September 28th 2009

Good movie, not great. Wall-E was great, The Incredibles was great. Monsters vs. Aliens was good.
