PSA: Ubisoft server migration means temporary offline time for some games

Feb 3rd 2012 6:17AM (Joystiq)
Ubisoft better be prepared to receive a lot of e-mail -- provided they aren't also taking tech support offline during the move.

@Tiptup300

A small amount of development time can save a LOT of user time. That's the whole point to "wasting" time on making good interfaces, short boot up times, human translation instead of machine translation, etc.

All 1,031 of Gran Turismo 5's cars catalogued

What? No K-Car?

At least they have my beloved Scooby on there. You know... the ugly one.

Vanquish 'SDTV mode' enlarges text, icons, hopes

Why even bother making two font sizes?

Large text should be standard on HDTVs, too. These are TVs, not computer monitors. Not all HDTVs are 1080p. Not everyone has 20/20 vision, or, like me, wears his glasses while gaming.

Ever try to read the blue-on-black subtitles in Ratchet and Clank? Small text *and* lousy color choices? You don't see stuff like that on news tickers, and for good reason.

Yamauchi: Gran Turismo 5 has optional 10GB install

Aug 30th 2010 5:51AM (Joystiq)
Can't they just cache frequently used stuff as it is loaded, instead of install everything in one go? 256MB to 10GB is one hell of a jump.

Yes, I upgraded my PS3 to a 360GB drive.

Disney wants to take Epic Mickey to 'Nintendo levels' on the Wii

That screenshot looks more Yakko Warner than Mickey Mouse.

That's more like... Anti-Mickey.

David Jaffe talks death of Calling All Cars as servers go offline

I never played it because when it came out, there was no demo.

Kinda hard to plop down $10 (the price of a typical new movie) when you don't know what a game is like. Why should I run to YouTube to see gameplay? How come there wasn't even downloadable gameplay footage?

Every game is a bit different on the PS3 when it comes to promotional material. CAC was somewhere on the bottom. If people are expected to just buy stuff without thinking, then, yes, it has to be dirt cheap. I prefer paying a fair price, but you do have to try to sell it to me.

DSiWare purchases locked to hardware, only Nintendo can transfer

No, it's licensed to the hardware, not to YOU.

PalTalk takes patent infringement suit on the road, sues MMO devs

Bought.

They can't even make their own patents, let along products.
