Extra points leak out of Wii Shop Channel (Wii annoyance #006)

Nov 28th 2006 10:11AM (Joystiq)
You've misunderstood Emmanuel. You're buying Wii Points with your credit card, you just happen to be paying in your local currency for those points.

The Points system lets them set the same Point cost for a game in all regions (600 points), yet the cost to buy those points is different. Eg. It might cost 1000Yen for 1000 points, but $10 US for 1000 points, and 100 Pesos for 1000 points.

If they didn't have the points system, they'd have to deal with currency conversions at the point of sale, and when displaying the cost of the downloads in each region. (600 Yen, $6 USD, 60 Pesos, $6.64 Cdn in their respective regions).

Matt, you may use PMC as a generic term, but PMC means "Portable Media Center" and refers to the specific version of the Windows Mobile OS (with the copy of the 10ft interface used on Windows Media Center).

PMC devices are, PlayForSure compliant devices, and have full support for Media Center recorded TV and Videos. Calling a 5G iPod a PMC would be incorrect, as it cannot sync recorded TV from a Windows Media Center PC (without having to add in format transcoding step), nor can it play WMA or WMV with Microsoft DRM, a PMC can.
