Great, Madden 2009. Just another year without a legitimate football game on the consoles.

EA Sports looking into possible subscription program future

Jul 30th 2008 12:26PM (Joystiq Xbox)
"While we can't guess what might, if anything at all does, come of this idea we can at least credit EA for being one of the publishers that keeps trying to innovate."

You're kidding, right? EA Sports is about the one gaming division that I can think of that has stifled innovation, especially in football. They don't try an innovate, they try and take the space over by buying out exclusive licensing deals and squashing any competition which just might force them to innovate.

EA Sports is the exact opposite of innovation.

Would You Rather ... One to Rule Them All Edition

Your comment is well taken, but I imagine that the 3rd party peripheral market would explode, and there would be choice. I, like some others, HATE the PS3 controller (actually any PS controller), and would likely not game at all if I HAD to use that controller.

The real reason why I would still support competition is for the.. competition. If there were but one console, there would be no reason to keep pushing the boundaries on gaming. Gamers would have to either suck it up or game on a PC.

User-Controlled Celebrations debut in Madden 09

So when will 2K sports finally realize that an NFL license isn't the end-all to making a good football game?

Since I thrive on franchise mode, and most of my players are fictional by the 3rd or 4th year in anyways, I couldn't care less about an NFL license. I would be happy to be the Miami Flamingos if it meant having a good football game to play.

I refuse to play Madden. Ever.

I'm ashamed to be from Kentucky if this is indeed a product of the Bluegrass State.

I would argue that it won't be another GRAW. Ubi clearly uses a specific development pattern with the entire GR series. They develop technology for a game, and use it for 2 games, then move on. If you look at the game history:

GR
GR: Island Thunder

GR2
GR2: Summit Strike

GRAW
GRAW2

I would imagine that the technology would be new for a new 2 part series. The second part has always integrated changes in the UI and, minimally, in the game play, but the game remains essentially the same.

Since it has been over a year since GRAW2's arrival, which came out about a year after GRAW, I would argue, considering that this is the first we've seen of a possible new GR and that it likely won't be available until much later in the year, that this is indeed a new development cycle and not a continuation of GRAW. It may well be called GRAWx, but the game will be different.

Madden 08 gets a roster update

The idea of "weapons" and the magical powers that they somehow bestow on gamers is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Seriously.

Long live the true console football simulator, ESPN NFL 2K5.

Let the showdown begin: GHIII nabs Metallica

Aug 3rd 2007 4:39PM (Joystiq Xbox)
"Metallica fans couldn't ask for much better than that."

Believe me, there are many songs that a Metallica fan would ask for long before One. One was a popular success, but virtually anything from any of the previous albums would be preferable. Why not "Master of Puppets?"

Let me first say that I love 2K5. I will play it over Madden for years to come as it is still better than Madden 07, and will likely be better than Madden for a long while.

That said, I will not buy 2K8, and it has absolutely nothing to do with not having an official NFL license. IT HAS NO FRANCHISE MODE!!!!!

Franchise mode is the heart of any modern sports game, and with no franchise mode, I have zero interest in playing 2K8, Dan Marino or not.

Why they decided to not have a franchise mode, I'm not sure, but their logic can't have been that great. I play 2K5 with a fairly large group of guys. We base our rosters and acquisitions off each other. None of us will buy 2K8. We'd all rather play with a made up player that we draft than with All Pro historical players.

2K Sports has lost at least 10 sales because of their decision to not include a franchise mode. Here's to hoping that they will get their heads out of their ( | )es before next year's iteration, or they will lose even more sales.

Rainbow Six Vegas Red and Black edition now free

Yes, Ubisoft rocks. But as a gamer who is only mildly interested in online multiplayer, they will rock even harder when they announce the next iteration of R6 so that I can finally get my campaign fix. I would have thought that we would have at least heard something by now, but nada.
