I believe Cablecard _does_ support IPTV, as I have questioned a Verizon tech on the matter and he said that yes, they provide Cablecards for their service.

"No, these TiVo boxes only support CableCARD 1.0, which only supports downstream communication. That means no On-Demand, Program Guide or Pay-Per-View for you."

Unless something has changed since CES (and that's possible, I just haven't heard anything about it), it will either accept two 1.0 cards or a single 2.0 card (capable of both dual tuning and all the upstream communication features).

Basically, if anyone cares about the techinical description behind MIDP 2, it's a specific set of Java specifications/APIs that developers can write code against and be sure any phone labeled "MIDP 2 compliant" can run that code. It's a part of the Micro Edition of the platform (designed for cellphones and other small/embedded devices) rather than the Standard Edition which desktops use.

It should support XviD -- from the XviD Wikipedia page:

"Since XviD uses MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) compression, video encoded with XviD can be decoded with other MPEG-4 compliant decoders as well."
