Your Week in Nintendo - 11/6/06 - 11/12/06

Nov 13th 2006 11:44AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Is this post really necessary? I like this blog and I check it all the time. But it doesn't seem that there is enough news about the DS to warrant this. Maybe I am one of the few obsessive readers you have, stopping by every day to see what is new, but this just seems like a filler post to make it seem that there is more going on at this blog.

PS I do believe that your sister blog joystiq attempted something similar to this. And but they stopped doing it after a while (which is their MO really)

Hey Limey,

Just wanted to point out that if you think the US is homophobic, you should go check out asia. I do believe that Japan and my home country of Korea still officially claim that there are no gays at all. At least in other countries gays are recognized as a people(?) social group, whatever while in asia they are barely even recognized as being a living organism.

Oh and Probot (#23) good answer. WE MUST DESTROY THE SHRIMP!

I love Vlad. I finally realized that he is my favorite blogger in the entire blogosphere. No one gets a reaction out of me like vlad does. No other blogger has the ability to get me so pissed off that I actually leave a comment. Seriously Vlad you are my favorite blogger to hate. Thanks for all the fun. Now only if you would start blogging about my other interests, then I could hate you even more.

Cohen on Mac Pro's gaming prowess

Aug 15th 2006 11:11PM (Joystiq)
yea! Lord Madux for starting a flaming war over software rather than harder. Let's hi-jack this war.

I'm an avid (pun intended) mac user. Absolutely love it. However the fact of the matter is that high end PCs (the ones the client buys) are better at rendering than macs. Well that's been my experience.

And on to the FCP v Avid war. So I'm pissed off that FCP came about. Your absolutely right. It killed the market. (For professional editors not NLEs)
I don't mean to insinuate that you have no skill, but most of these casual users have no talent for editing. Have you seen the crap on youtube or the stuff that passes for video podcasts. Most of these shows are horrible edited and I guarantee they were done on either FCP or iMovie. People think because they have access to the software means that they have the talent to use it.

And when it boils down to it Avid works with HD better. No rendering just to play it in your timeline. But the real kicker is media management. With Avid the media is managed flawlessly. Have you ever tried to deliver your meta-data to the colorist for the onlining using your precious FCP? Have fun hunting down everything you need.

So your right. Have fun dicking around with FCP, because I use Avid to get paid.

PS I use AXP on my g4 powerbook for offline cuts at home so I don't have to always go into the office.

PPS Demasculated is not a word. Or was that just a typo?

Cohen on Mac Pro's gaming prowess

go go redspear. FCP blows, AVID rules, and your right. Give me a high end PC for Video work (although my PowerPC mac was more stable than most PC based Avids). But seriously, gaming on a computer? Everyone knows that they are slowly dying because of the console market right?
But seriously, if Cider becomes wildly accepted by developers than PCs and Macs would be equal in terms of number of games. I'm just curious why people are so pissed that anyone even suggests gaming on a mac. I used to play WOW on my mac no problem. Besides wasn't the linked article crowing about the POTENTIAL for it to play games. You know, kinda like your parents saying you have so much POTENTIAL to do what ever you want yet you still persist in playing these damn children's toys and amounting to nothing in life (Shut up mom!)
oh and I love how the commentors bag on the base model MacPro and then go on about modding their PCs. Geez isn't that what apple allows you to do when you order online. You know, upgrade. Just saying.
Also wanted to tell ymmv (#9) I don't think you where being a PC fanboy, just logical. Except you forget the iMac. That is apple's desktop for the general public. Not saying it is a gaming rig, just a desktop. And the expensive laptops you mention, do you mean the Mac Books starting at 1099, cuz that's not that high in my book. I agree with you that Mac has a smaller marketshare thus less games and that MacPros are definately workstations and not really meant for the public. That said, it still didn't stop me from loading up games on the graphics PC workstation at work (they are way faster than my mac, or most computers for that matter, and seriously what else is a $20,000 computer for?)
And on a last note, who really cares?!? Not impressed that I burned 5Gs setting up my new mac and HD monitors. What about the 5Gs I spent on the Alienware custom gaming rig. Perhaps you are impressed by the large cardboard box I live in because I blew the mortgage on computers to play games.

Dear post #23,

DAMN YOU!

People have commented about your wit and hilarity. Personally I damn you for overshadowing post #24. C'mon people, now that's what I call topical. Duke Lacross Team? anyone? (crickets chirping in background) Anyways, I didn't read all the posts but #24 I salute you and your unappreciated attempt at humor

and no I didn't post it, I just laughed my ass off when I read it.

PS #23 you were pretty funny to. Thanks for pointing out that Myth Busters occasionally needs to be busted as well.

Dear Guy (#25),

I understand how you feel about videogames but seriously do some research rather than spouting off hearsay. You are making broad statements with no examples to back up your claims. Plus you speak for many, when it is clear that you are speaking for yourself. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just suggesting you do more research. Making statements such as children being naturally angry because of puberty sound far fetched to say the least, I think misguided angst would be a more appropriate term. The whole bashing of the education system is also pretty juvenile and not well thought out. Yes, the school system is flawed, but that doesn't mean that it is completely useless. I know I went through public schools up to the University level and I got a pretty decent job.I also disagree with you attacking JT to fix everything that you have a problem with. Although I don't agree with his views, 1) stooping to his level and using the same tactics he uses does not help and 2) I respect a man that is passionate about what he believes in. At least he is doing something, however misguided, to try and make a difference. If anything you should follow his example and do something to make a change rather than attacking someone through words, words that will undoubtly fall on deaf ears.
