New Witcher 2 trailer details new and improved newness, Dark Edition

Mar 17th 2012 1:32PM (Joystiq)
@Red O Magnus What? A death can be followed by a lot of narrative content that isn't directly related to the character. An outro would be a cutscene, so it wouldn't have any needs for player interaction.

Fallout: The first modern role-playing game

@(Unverified) Beyond Zork, released in 1987, had a rudimentary morality system.

@Mmmmz If you have a friend who's subbed, they can send you a one-week trial. I still have all three of mine unsent.

Witcher 2 devs: 'We will never use any DRM anymore'

Mar 8th 2012 6:11PM (Joystiq)
@Lnds500 iTunes has sold DRM-free music for a long time, and Amazon MP3 has been doing this for even longer. Since when does the music industry "not get it"? Music is the one industry that DOES get it on a near-universal level!

Double Fine Adventure surpasses $2 million on Kickstarter

Feb 20th 2012 3:23PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified) Getting your money up-front rather than on the back-end isn't a terrible problem, especially since it means people who were going to be laid off if this didn't work out are going to keep their jobs. Anyway:

1. Kickstarter does not give access to mobile versions, just PC/Mac. There is money to be made on mobile platforms.
2. Not everyone is able or willing to pre-order a video game 6 months ahead of release which only has a developer and a genre.
3. Believe it or not, there are people using Steam that have no idea this is going on.
4. Believe it or not, there are people who have no idea what an adventure game is that might want to buy it when they see a trailer and/or screenshots.

Double Fine Adventure surpasses $2 million on Kickstarter

@Siphillis Um.

I've seen films, albums, art installations, etc funded through crowdfunding. Kickstarter and Indiegogo have LOTS of projects and do this for tons of "industries" every single day.

Double Fine's adventure coming to PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android devices [Update]

Feb 15th 2012 10:07PM (Joystiq)
@lolkeits "Tim Schafer hates me; I stole a yo-yo of his once, but I also said something mean about a game he made, and when I saw him at GDC a couple years ago he flipped me off. It didn’t hurt my feelings, I flip people off for a living. All it said to me was that he takes it serious; that he and his work are synonyms. That’s more or less the person I want to support."
