New Mario Galaxy (Wii) trailer as shown at GDC

Mar 9th 2007 7:30AM (Joystiq)
@Shagittarius

No, it's not fanboy. If you have a look at Nintendo's track record for quality, I think it's reasonable enough for people to expect another stellar title from Nintendo. Noone else comes close to their reputation, they are right up there with Blizzard. I am a Nintendo fan, but that's only because they are a quality developer. The day they start churning out crap like Sega is the day that I will stop being their fan. I also expect this to be true for a very large proportion of the Nintendo fanbase.

Radio station cancels show, fires 10 over deadly Wii contest

Jan 18th 2007 5:24AM (Joystiq)
wow, i just heard on radio this afternoon the show itself when it was doing that contest. It actually had people calling in saying that it is dangerous to do that because of the risk of water intoxication, and the dj's were totally laughing and being total asses by dismissing it. He said something about the body automatically making you throw up, and if you throw up you lose the contest. Wow, just wow. These guys should go to jail. Getting fired is too good for them.

Dragon Quest IX announced as DS exclusive

Dec 13th 2006 12:01AM (Joystiq)
I guess some of the people who are not happy about this has a point, but i think you need to think of it in this way.

If SE makes the next Dragon Quest for the PS3 or the Xbox360, which has the most grunt out of the systems out there, i suppose they could theoretically make a more graphically pleasing game. That is true, but what is also undeniable is that they would make less money than if they released for the DS. Now, at the end of the day they are a business. If they made the game for the PS3 and they didn't get the numbers they needed to keep the company afloat, and they had to downsize or bankrupt entirely, now how does that benefit anyone? In the long run, making decisions based on business environment is a much better way than purely on artistic or graphical perspective.

Are you ready to break-up with Sony?

Sep 6th 2006 11:53AM (Joystiq)
People are attached to brands because evolution created tribe mentality. People are inclined to pick a tribe and to put their support behind a tribe to boost their chances of survival. We just can't help ourselves even if we don't need that anymore.

European launch of PlayStation 3 delayed until March 2007

Sep 6th 2006 6:32AM (Joystiq)
hohoho: I deplore them for having the gall to claim they will do a worldwide launch and then to do a backflip. Oh well, what do you expect, it's Sony.
At least Microsoft tried. Yes, they fell short, but they tried their best to fulfil the promise they made. I admire that a lot more than the lies and hyperbole, ie Bull shit, being spouted from Sony.

Bringing new gamers into the fold: Is our culture inclusive?

Sep 6th 2006 1:24AM (Joystiq)
Well, if you go on Battle.net, you will see how sheltered and protectionist the culture there can be.
Playing DOTA for example, if you are starting out for the first time there is no way you will get a game. If you are downloading the game then you are kicked. If, for some reason you do download the game from a site and try and play, you will be labeled a newb and will be banned. There is absolutely no tolerance for newbies on DOTA games. That is one thing i really don't like. Sure, having newbies can be frustrating, but in the long run if a percentage of them become fans then DOTA base will grow and that can only be good. Alas, this culture of making it very difficult for new players to get into it has stuck.

High-end PS3 shipping without HDMI cable

Sep 4th 2006 1:32AM (Joystiq)
""Sony said the $600 PS3 would play our content in 1080p. Maybe they should have made it clear we'd need an extra cable not included in the box to do so."

For games, component cables will get you 1080p. HDMI is not needed for 1080p gaming. For all the people's proclamation of only wanting to get the PS3 for gaming and now that the system doesn't have an HDMI no everyone wants movie playback in 1080p. I wonder why. or is it just joystiq?"

Haven't you been reading the posts? From what I've researched only HD TV's from Westinghouse will accept 1080p signals via component. The vast majority of HD TV's don't accept 1080p through component, even if the PS3 is pushing out a 1080p signal.
So, Sony's touted 1080p will not be possible on the 500 dollar SKU, for the time being at least, for the majority of HD TV owners. Maybe Sony will start making HD TV's that will accept 1080p signal from component, but until then, start buying those Westinghouse fridg.. oh i mean LCD TV's. (Unlikely because they need the movie industry support and they are the ones who are enforcing this).

Sony to halve PS3 year-end target shipment to two million?

Aug 30th 2006 7:57PM (Engadget)
"No one trusts the official spokesman...everyone trusts the unofficial source"
Well, we have already been OFFICIALLY duped about the 7 usb ports on ps3, 2 hdmi ports, Killzone trailer. What kind of sane person WOULD believe the official line from Sony?
