Didn't they make a similar announcement when word got out that FFXIII would be at E3 06? And, well, it was there.

That is a pretty convincing source, but I can't help but think back to sometime last year when Sony's North American site had a load of games listed for release and they weren't released on those dates (one of which was the UMD version of Advent Children), and a few PSP games that weren't even announced for North America (Tales of Eternia Online). So like many retail sites, that date could be just a projection. It doesn't help matters much that nary a press release can be found regarding the Euro announcement and that Eurogamer doesn't like to cite its sources.
