Rumormill: Mitsubishi considering plug-in powertrain for next Evolution?

Oct 19th 2009 6:38PM (Autoblog Green)
Mitsubishi did create an EV version of the Evo IX, so I wouldn't be at all surprised.
I personally own an Evo IX and would happily trade it for an XI with electric drive.

But, it'd have to get more than a 30 mile range. My commute is 85km per day (which I currently do by train). I'd happily drive an EV, as driving takes me half the time.

VIDEO: The Stig runs the GT-R around Top Gear's track

Jul 20th 2008 11:55PM (Autoblog)
The 'ring is a "handling" track, while the Top Gear track (as stated in the video) is a "power" track.

As such, it's surprising it did so well.

The AWD system in that car makes a world of difference.

Btw, I just watched the episode. That time is correct.

Saying these are "Noble" based is very misleading.

Lee Noble created the first Ultima car, which pre-dates the vehicles known by the name "Noble" by nearly two decades.

Goodbye, Emotion Engine, you were quite useful

Take it from me, the removal of the EE engine is a total non-issue (since firmware 1.80).

The ONLY game I own which wouldn't run was GT4. It now runs fine.

@Cameron

You're on crack. I own 4 Wii games and 5 PS3 games. Guess which is getting played the most? As a hint, it has a big shiny black case.

I don't think the Wii could have possibly handled the graphics or physics in this game. Then there is the level creation and sharing. Since the Wii doesn't have a HDD and has virtually no online capabilities, the whole concept would have never work there.

Wii goes online with Mario Strikers Charged

"Ok, I'm sick of all you guys bashing Nintendo and the Wii.....if you really don't like it that much, freaking sell your Wii and shut up!"

No, I'm going to bitch about what I don't like about the console until somebody listens and makes the sorts of games I like. If there was a decent table tennis game for it (you listening, Rockstar Games?), I'd rush out and buy it today. The Wii has a LOT of potential (which is the ONLY reason I purchased my first Nintendo console). Put putting old Nintendo IP games on it with half-assed control schemes doesn't fulfill that potential.

For those bashing the story line of Gears, et al.
Sure, it's easy to sum them up as "man meets aliens/soldiers, man kills lots of (increasingly difficult) aliens/soldiers, end of story".
It's also easy to sum up every romance story as "boy/man meets girl/woman, both fall in love, boy/man does something totally lame/stupid/moronic/retarded/insensitive, girl/woman says she hates boy/man, boy/man goes to extraordinary lengths to win back girl/woman, girl/woman loves boy/man again, boy/man and girl/man live happily ever after". Every story ever written can be summed up in a similar way. And from what I've seen, most Nintendo games have even less story than that.

The game play vs graphics argument is always a good one. Nethack is still one of my favorite games, even though it has no story, no graphics and no sound (it's text based). But give me a version with a decent story, some good graphics, atmospheric sound, and I'd definitely buy it. While I love good game play, I also love eye candy. Game play + Eye Candy > Game Play or Eye Candy. Add some atmosphere to the mix (through good sound) and it's even better.

"This is what Mario should look like."

While that Mario certainly has a million times more character than the previous ones (including that lame movie), I don't think it really suits the IP. Although, I do wish the Wii could product graphics at that resolution.

"How are visuals secondary in a game. I hope that isn't how you drive your car, you idoit. Visual stimulation will always be first, then input."

LongshotX, try doing anything without the sense of touch. FYI: Our skin is the most sensitive organ on the human body, and the one we rely on more than anything else. Anyway, all inputs are important (including sound, which Nintendo have also neglected). I'm pissed that Nintendo didn't even bother putting previous gen 5.1 sound in the Wii. Atmospheric sound is also a huge part of what can make a game great.

"the opinions of anyone that considers themself a 'hardcore gamer' (or a 'hardcore' anything for that matter) are automatically null for me."

Well, I hope Nintendo don't have the same attitude. Otherwise, the Wii WILL bomb just as the GC did. Btw, did you know the GC sold more units than the PS2 in it's first four months? I wonder how they managed to lose the previous gen war after such a good start?

"why does every consoles online support have to be equal to xbox live? that would take everything special out of xbox live. if you can play the games online, thats all that matters."

I don't have an XBox, so can't comment specifically on Live. But if it's half as good as the M$ fanbois say, both Sony and Nintendo should take a good hard look and try to emulate (or expand upon) whatever works.

Btw, before Jody or any of the other Nintendo fan-boys call me out for being a kid, I started gaming when Pong was released (yes, I'm that freakin' old). I've played games with all sorts of graphics (including quite a few text based games), but would prefer a game with good game play and good graphics over any game with one or the other. My main beef with Nintendo, is I don't think they're making the most of the Wii.

Wii goes online with Mario Strikers Charged

"I'm just wondering, everyone that complains about nintendo in every nintendo-based comment thread, what is your motivation for doing so?"

Not that I complain about nintendo all the time. But I am annoyed at the lack of games for it (and even more annoyed at the lack of games coming out in future).

Nintendo appear to be the only company doing anything other than half-assed ports with crappy use of the Wiimote (and even then, the best game I've played is a GC port). If the Wii is to survive long-term, it needs a lot more than ports with, rehashes of 10-20 year old IP (which never compelled me to buy any of their previous consoles) and mini-game after mini-game.

When the Wii manages to attract a 3rd party exclusive, I'll consider it to be a contender in the "Console War". Until then, it's just Nintendo rehashing old crap with a new control scheme.

But to answer your question: My motivation is to hopefully get Nintendo to wake up and make the most of their console. As a Wii owner, I think they're doing a piss poor job of getting content out that justifies my purchase. IMO they're also doing a poor job of getting other developers to make the most of it.

As a comparison, I've spent more on PS3 games than I did on the Wii console. Not because I can't afford to, not because the games are more expensive (they're the same price here), but because the Wii games that are being produced don't compel me to buy them. Maybe I'm not the target market? Maybe I'm too "hardcore"? Maybe I like eye candy too much? But I had high hopes for the Wii and they're yet to be realised.

TransGaming and Nvidia team up for high-end games on the Mac

Feb 6th 2007 9:15PM (Joystiq)
Jake: 1. Just get a Windows based PC and not have to worry about so much. It isn't like getting a Mac is going to help save the world or get you into heaven. Bill Gates is an American hero and deserves more money.

Spoken like a typical 12yo M$ Fanboi. I've (unfortunately) worked with Microsoft products for over 15 years. When the anti-trust case was raised against them, I was disgusted that the US Govt. didn't have the guts to break the company up. I hope Bill Gates rots in hell.
