TUAW Review: Podcaster

How about using Simplify Media to link to your desktop which you set to update hourly via iTunes (or, if you set SM to track a fold, any podcatcher could update it)? Seems pretty easy to me; I did it this afternoon at lunch.

Podcaster app distributed via Ad Hoc after Apple rejection

I like the idea of developers using ad-hoc to distribute apps not worthy for the App Store; however, $10 for an app that can effectively be simulated by Simplify Media (for podcasts already in your iTunes library; set iTunes to update every hour, then stream them with SM) or FlyCast (for finding new podcasts; on-demand has many streamable shows that are normally podcasts in iTunes)... it just seems a bit pricey.

If you get the headpiece, the staff, and the ascarab of Ra, you can finally escape the pyramid.

iTunes 7.5 and QuickTime 7.3

I noticed this morning that AAC VBR actually... VBR's. At least, the iTunes display reflects it (I'm getting bitrates like 209kbps, 198kbps, etc., for AAC). It surprised me, and makes me wonder if the VBR option for AAC was broken all this time.

Ambrosia: Committed to making iToner work

I'm of the opinion that this is all a rather clever way of upping the baseline for iPhone security, gaguing dev enthusiasm, and gaining some early metrics on 3rd party app use.

Apple releases the iPhone, devs crack it, put apps on it, make ringtones, etc. Apple fills in those cracks ,shores up the holes, finds out that devs want to make 3rd party apps, and uses these early months as a sort of "Wild West" beta.

Now, Apple knows what they need to know, have filled in the easy holes, and can provide an "approved dev" SDK with a process to properly bless software. By closing the easy holes, they prevent unsigned software. By providing the SDK (soon, I should suspect), they control the dev process and basic quality level.

It's a nerd PR disaster, but really, that's small compared to the userbase as a whole.

I always prefered Megadeth's version off of So Far So Good So What. I'd much rather GH to that version.

Man, why couldn't this have been announced last week, *before* I paid $40 for the Dreamcast version of the game?

Wow... that looks like a ressurected corpse from the Bad N64 Games pile. Love that 32 pixel tile action.
