House of the Dead 3 and 4 becoming PSN neighbors

Jan 5th 2012 2:40PM (Joystiq)
Would have bought HOTD4 in an instant to play on a friend's PS3 if was not a digital only release. Oh well, might be for the best, though, as I was never able to get past the first boss in the arcade version.

King of Fighters XIII review: Sweep the leg

@Shinchi

Trocadero got shut down in the summer. So, so sad; so many good memories.

The last two arcades standing are Namco and Casino (Goodge Street).

@Timjoy

London. There used to be THREE significant arcades. Sadly it's been whittled down to two.

King of Fighters XIII review: Sweep the leg

I don't think my nearest arcade is going to get this game, which is a darn shame as that seems to be the only way that I'll be able to play it.

Then again, 10 or so years of playing, and consistently being poor at, Saturn KOF 97, I still approach the series in a button-masher fashion. Not really sure what I'm doing; lost so much money on KOF 12.

Must say that KOF 12/13 are certainly the most pretty of games.

PEGI rates Fear Effect series, Fighting Force 2 for PS3

I remember having the most intense argument about the pros and cons of Fighting Force and Three Dirty Dwarves. My logic boiled down to: TDD has a guy who throws bowling balls; TDD has snot; TDD is superior. You can't beat that!

FF and TDD: what a pair of shitty games.

No space for Kinect. In fact, I'm not even sure where 360 cables are currently located. I think somebody might have boosted them.

It's a shame because I've been waiting for a PD game for ages. Looks fabulous; that sky looks so, so blue.

3DS price drops to $170 on August 12

Jul 28th 2011 5:16AM (Joystiq)
It's not purely a case of the console being optimistically priced.

The people who brought the likes of Brain Training and Classic Book Collection, the people who propelled the DS, have gravitated to other devices: their attention has been stolen by smartphones and other shiny things.

The alternative to the 3DS - smartphones - is good enough; the games are good enough, it provides a good enough experience, and the price of applications is more than attractive. "Good enough" being the key phrase (NP???/VP???). The games released on the 3DS thus far are simply too similar to games from yesterday, too expensive for families in straitened times.

Without being overly dramatic, it feels like Nintendo are in a Sega-like death spiral, circa 1994-1998; they're reacting without really thinking. Or maybe that is overly dramatic. But it does not feel like Nintendo get it: what worked yesterday isn't going to work tomorrow. I don't really see Mario 123 can bailing them out.

Should have more clearly: Devil Survivor comes out in 2011.

Nintendo mass announces Wii, DS game launch dates

Loved Devil Survivor. Will Yoohoo feature? Can only hope so. Can only think of two or three or four other RPGs that has given me such enjoyment.

Seems strange, though, that this will probably be the only game I'll buy this year - 18 months, even, if we go back to S&P Wii.

Alleyway rated for 3DS

This game wasn't the best of breakout clones even way back then. When the ball hit your paddle it would go in reverse direction regardless of angle, if I remember correctly. So it was basically *-1 to Speed for every paddle intersection. OF COURSE, I didn't know that way back then; I just thought it compared poorly to my Dad's BBC computer version.
