MTV wants Joystiqers who'll dish on camera
May 25th 2006 10:50AM (Joystiq)Free expression isn't always a good thing
May 2nd 2006 11:38AM (Joystiq)I can't play games online without being bombarded with N-bombs and other terms not acceptable since 1961 and used with the intentions of a Hitler speech. Its not just slang either... hateful statements not relating to gameplay are all too frequent.
Even if you are to dismiss this sociological phenomenon as sheltered 13 year old white boys, they will grow up. These "kids" are already embracing these beliefs at an alarmingly young age and are imprinting these nature into their persona.
I personally think this is a very real sampling of our population that goes beyond racial, socio-economic, sex, or regional boundaries. The medium of a anonymous forum only allows people to show their nature without consequences.
As free speech advocates say when it comes to TV, "If you're offended, there are 2 buttons for you to use: the channel or the power." I've tried switching games and got the same results, so I've quit playing online games. But videogames aren't the problem, the problem is the people playing them.
Half-Life 2 becomes episodic
Feb 12th 2006 9:56PM (Joystiq)Now we won't have to wait years, as we already know another mediocre 6 hours of game play is half a year away. We were never going to get another gaming masterpiece from this franchise anyways, at least now we won't need to oversell it for 4 years imagining HL3 will change the way we experience video games.
Will I buy Aftermath? yeah. Will I buy an episode or 2, yeah. But will I ever be anxiously awaiting another "episode"? No... and if I don't buy an episode sometime, I'm not going to play storyline catch-up later.... I will have given up.
