Rumor: WiiWare sales for third-party devs in the hundreds?

Oct 23rd 2008 6:26PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I call shenanigans on this rumor. I seriously doubt companies would be clamoring to get titles released on Wii Ware if it was some kind of dismal failure. Do you really think Tell Tale would continue making Strongbad episodes if they were only selling a few hundred copies? I think if the first episode had been that kind of flop they would drop the project.

Also, wasn't it announced that MM9 sold TENS OF THOUSANDS is just the first week or so after release? So this rumor is bunk, however I'm sure sales are not anywhere near what they could be if storage were not an issue and Nintendo made it easier to create an account and you could actually keep a CC on file or better yet, if you could log into your account and play your purchased games from any Wii (you just have to be logged in to play and can only be logged in at once place at a time)... if Valve can do it with Steam why can't Nintendo?

Those kind of changes would drastically increase my Wii Ware purchasing, because part of me cringes every time I think of how much I have invested in it already and how pissed I would be if my Wii died and I lost all of that content.

Nintendo sneaks Wii Speak Channel announcement out

Oct 2nd 2008 6:08PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
@the Dom
I'm with you on using it for other games. There has to be a way to make the Wii Speak Channel a portal to the disc Channel and allow for voice chat. But if it did, I'm afraid it would mess up some games, especially SSBB which already has enough trouble with lag, VOIP would probably kill it all together.

Oprah knows where the fun is at

Jul 31st 2008 8:29PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
To anyone wondering why this is significant, it's not the Oprah just bought a Wii. That in of its self is no big deal, but what matters is how much influence Oprah has over her audience. Now we all know that the Wii by no means needs Oprah's help, and it's doing just fine without her endorsement. That said, her endorsement will only further drive sales and excitement for our favorite console. Oprah is extremely influential, especially in the housewife and retired people demographic (i.e. teh casuals), so if she even mentions the Wii on her show there are certain people who had no interest in gaming suddenly clamoring for their very own "that little white box that I saw Oprah bowling on her TV with".

E308: Live highlights from Nintendo's private conference

Pikmin is awesome and I really loved the first one, never even played the 2nd one though (regretfully so, granted).... but a megaton this is not. *sigh* better than nothing, but still left wanting more...

One third of Japanese Wii owners have Wii Fit

May 14th 2008 4:45PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I don't think you gain any functionality by having two balance boards (no 2 player simultaneous racing etc.) and it only comes with Wii Fit, so I the attach rate is pretty much right on. And it's only a waste of money if you don't use it. If you bought it and used it every day, that seems like a pretty sound investment. Personally, I plan to get a lot of mileage out of mine, but to each his own.

Virtually Free: Karting, 64-style

Apr 30th 2008 5:13PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Of course the original Super Mario Kart... I would like to see an online element added, so maybe it could be a Wii Ware title!!

Capcom confirms: Bionic Commando not coming to VC

Those collaborations were on the GBC, not the GBA if I remember correctly, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Two great games btw.

Revealed: Why Mario isn't in Wii Fit

Apr 22nd 2008 4:30PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
As much as I love Mario games, I would have to agree that it's a good idea not having a cartoon mascot attached to this title. It needs to have somewhat generic looking characters and Mii support to give it the broadest appeal possible. Now I wouldn't be opposed to a Mario title somewhere down the like that makes use of the balance board, in fact if Wii Fit takes off in a major way I'd say we can almost count on it.

Wii Fit preorders through the roof in Britain

Apr 8th 2008 8:15PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The thing is, I expect the U.S. demand for Wii Fit to exceed Japan and Europe put together. I have wanted this thing from day one and I'm getting the feeling that I'm going to have to pre-order as soon as they become available or I'll be waiting for a few more months.

Wii Fanswag: Wireless nunchuk, Perfect Shot and Frontman guitar

Apr 3rd 2008 9:54PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Such things would bring would bring great joy and celebration, the likes of which I would not soon forget. I mean I don't "need" these things per se, but man it sure would be sweet to win something for once; especially 3 somethings that I would actually use all the time.
