It should be a capital offence to make or buy a 1920x1080 computer monitor. 16:9 is great for television but simply doesn't provide enough height for computer use where most of the information is presented in vertically. Look at engadget; like most sites it only uses a small portion of the screen horizontally but scrolls down vertically for tends of thousands of pixels. Cutting down the vertical resolution is the last thing we need. Monitor manufacturers are screwing us by sacrificing performance in order to increase their margins.

Microsoft lost $4.5billion on the origional Xbox and have lost $1billion on the Xbox 360. I can't find the total Sega lost on the Dreamcast but did find that their record loss was $110 million in 9 months. The loses Microsoft have made are vastly overshadow Sega's loss and the only reason Microsoft are still in the console business is becuase they have large cash reserves made from Windows and Office sales. If it was any other company that made the Xbox and Xbox 360 they'd probably be out of business now.

While gamers think the Xbox 360 has been a huge success most investors think otherwise since they're only interested in profit, not who's winning the console war. Many investors want Microsoft to get out of consumer electronics completely since they've done nothing but lose money in massive quantities since entering the market.

The reason sales have been so poor lately is because everyone is waiting for a price drop. I had an accident with my PS3 taking it to a friend's house and have been waiting for the price drop to replace it. Two people I know are also waiting for the price drop to buy one. At this point they're not going to get any sales until the cut the price because everyone is expecting a price drop any day now.

Jon, the difference is that Windows 95 was unstable and lacked functionality while XP is very stable and delivers all the features most users need. Vista and 7 have offered no compelling reason to upgrade and represent a decline in terms of speed and stability. Why upgrade your hardware and pay a hefty licence fee for a new operating sytstem that delivers no tangeable benefits? There's no point buying something just becuase it's new.

A few years ago I'd be following this enthusiastically. Now I can't even be bothered to read it. I have absolutely no interest in anything Nintendo does. They used to make the best games but now don't make anything I want to play :(

While positive this isn't the sort of price cut I was hoping would be announced at GDC. Looks like we'll have to wait until E3 :(

All games have a sensitivity setting to allow you to turn faster. You don't need a high cpi mouse just to turn fast.

Mice don't aim for you. Aim is about skill not having an expensive mouse with blue lights and a cool paint job. Cypher is well known for his amazing aim despite his 400cpi mouse, so clearly there's no need for laser mice with a 4000cpi sensor.

I do agree that comfort is important and that's why the Microsoft Wheel Mouse is so popular with many "professional" gamers - it's a simple, comfortable design. Most gaming mice tend to be heavily over engineered in terms of design and only fit well in the hand of a small subset of players while the MS Wheel Mouse works well for most players.

Too right, it's all about marketing. Razer have used marketing BS like this suitcase stunt to successfully convince morons that their mice are something special and are better than other mice. Of course a lot of "professional" gamers that are sponsored by Razer don't actually use Razer mice. Everyone likely saw the Razer Cypher special edition mouse which sold on eBay for $501. What mouse does Cypher use? A 400dpi MS wheel mouse.

I pity anyone who pays Razer's ridiculous prices some pretty blue LEDs and a load of marketing crap like Razer Synapse (TM), Glowpipe (TM), Always-On (TM), 1000Hz Ultrapolling (TM), and OMG 3200dpi Razer Precision (TM). Razer know that if you take away their marketing there's little left so they frantically trademark everything possible. How the hell can you trademark "Always-On"?

All this talk of price drops is killing Sony's sales. Nobody wants to buy a PS3 now because they think the price is about to drop so the sales have fallen considerably over the last six months or so. I know two people who want to buy a PS3 but are waiting for a price drop before they do.

Sony are in a really bad position because they're screwed either way. If they do drop the price they lose money on the console sales and if they don't drop the price they'll continue to lose sales due to people holding off their purchase for a price drop. With the dollar moving back to around 100yen they're in a slightly better position to drop the price but even now there are no signs of a price drop.

The PS3 is already great value for money but nobody in their right mind is going to buy it if they think the price is about to drop any day now. They should drop it $50 just to get the price drop out of the way so people will be less scared that the price will fall soon after they buy.
