WiiGator Backup Launcher released, makes chipless GameCube backups on Wii a reality

Feb 9th 2009 9:52AM (Engadget)
What are my options for playing wii backups? Without voiding my warranty off course. Or should I just train place my wii out of toddler reach?

RunCore's 1.8-inch netbook SSDs now shipping, 2.5-inch 256GB edition coming soon

Demand will rise for these and we'll all be having a laugh in 10-15 years time with "those drives with the spinning disks". Just like floppies vs optical disks (CD/DVD/BR).

With prices as above and system builders allready offering this option, it won't take 3 years before everyone reading this thread has adopted.

Rogers caves on iPhone 3G plans, offers up 6GB for $30 a month

Jul 9th 2008 4:21PM (Engadget)
In Belgium the iPhone is gonna be sold without a simlock and without a mandatory contract. It is prohibited by law here to sell phones with a contract and vice versa.

prices for the iPhone :
8 Gb iPhone : $826 (€ 525)
16 Gb iPhone : $968 (€ 615)

2 year contracts for the iPhone :
$47 (€30) for 200Mb of data, 3 hours calling or 300 text messages.
$70 (€45) for 500Mb data, 6 hours calling or 600 text messages.
$94 (€60) for 1Gb data, 9 hours calling or 900 text messages.

So a 16 Gb iPhone for 2 years with the cheapest plan would set you back $2102 (€ 1335).

I'm pretty sure Belgium has the shittiest prices worldwide! But because we're a small country, nothing about this shows up on the web outside Belgium.

200Mb/ month for €30, that's just plain stupid. I was gonna buy one, but I'm not, prices are far to steep !

Orange lands broad iPhone distro deal too

May 16th 2008 10:03AM (Engadget)
As a Belgian, I'm pretty excited to read "this year". I can't keep but wonder if Steve will pull a big stunt and announce the 3G iPhone worldwide for all these carriers. There have been more news items like this one, but sometimes they refer to "end of the year".

I'm not sure what the situation here in Belgium will be, as it is forbidden by law to simlock. Selling phones with a contract attached is also forbidden. Let alone selling a phone with a discount if you take a contract.

My bet is the iPhone in Belgium will be simlock free, but more expensive. And Orange (Mobistar), will be the only carrier to implement all the necessary stuff for the iPhone to work (cf. Visual Voicemail,...)

Bioshock Tuesday: win an Xbox 360 and a copy of Bioshock

Aug 22nd 2007 3:04AM (Engadget)
Picross DS. Too bad the xbox 360 can't join me on the bus, but I'm willing to make some sacrifices. If I win this one, I'll even update my very old TV.

Apple event tomorrow at 10:00AM PDT / 1:00PM EDT, set your alarms

Aug 7th 2007 2:41AM (Engadget)
My guess is higher resolution screens on the iMacs with brushed aluminum casing. Other casings for the macbook pro (maybe plastic for a mini macbook pro). A software announcement (probably .mac) and an announcement around the iPhone for the rest of the world.

Personally, I'm waiting for a new iPod, so I won't be stuck to the screen this evening (who am I kidding, I will be)

"Touch" interactive installation lights up Brussels' Dexia Tower

Pretty amazing to have to read this from engadget while i'm Belgian myself. I used to commute through Brussels by train. I wonder if it's visible.

Xbox Live Aracade to get Settlers of Catan & other Euro board games

Aug 23rd 2006 4:25PM (Joystiq)
@Kendrick : I doubt this will be a port of the Capcom version.

I for one am thrilled with this news. It's a shame large amounts of people still aren't aware of the great boardgames that are out there. These so called "euro"-games often don't show up on the shelves of big retailers, but they are easily 100 times more engaging and fun than anything Hasbro/MB/Parker throwed on the market -ever-. I hope this will be a gateway to bring more people to the hobby.

For people even remotely interested in boardgames I strongly advise a visit to http://www.boardgamegeek.com

When did you teach your kid to swim?

Feb 12th 2006 5:21PM (ParentDish)
My wife is pregnant with our first baby and we'll see our little wonder in a few months. When I was little I never got any swimming lessons and as a result I'm still unable to swim. I swore I wouldn't let my child go the same way, and thought of learning to swim simultaneously in a few years.

Recently I read an article about some findings from a local university. It stated that chlorine used to keep the swimming pools clean, can seriously damage the lungs of babies and young children. Especially around the age of 5-6 months, when the lungs are developing further. They investigated close to 500 children aged 8-14. Those who were exposed to swimming pools as a baby had twice as much astma as those who weren't. This news upset me a lot, especially since my brother in law frequently goes swimming with his 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son.
