hmm...the demo left me feeling pretty meh about this game. the gameplay and story just didn't feel very original.

speaking of originality and game demos, did anyone else find the kingdoms of amalur demo to be very similar to the fable series?

while platinum makes fun, fast-paced games, it was really the depth and intentionally slow pacing of the metal gear series that i loved. this trailer made me wonder if platinum and kojima are just trying to prove they can make ninja gaiden, too.

Gamestop sells demo disc as new game

Nov 25th 2007 7:39PM (Joystiq)
joystiq, i'm really surprised you ran this story. as an employee at a retail chain that specializes in selling video games, i feel that running a story about a very common mistake only adds to the antagonism i face on a daily basis for simply doing my job. who says gamestop was the one that marked out the "demo disc only, not for resale" text? i personally handle literally dozens of game discs every week that are marked up in ways beyond belief - almost crazily enough to start a blog based solely on pictures of beat up games customers have brought in for cash or credit.

furthermore, it's not uncommon for an employee to confuse a new disc for a used one, especially at this time of year when stores are gorged with impatient customers who haven't been doing their homework.

companies like mine don't pay commission. we do all of our own research and study the industry without pay. we try to bend rules to make customers happy when we can, and when we can't it's because we'll get fired. honestly, i'm pretty annoyed by how much gamers complain about gamestop. they offer the most comprehensive and reliable reservation system available, even if it doesn't work 100% of the time (but what does?). and what do they get for it? constant, grating criticism. the phrase "don't kill the messenger" comes to mind.

all in all, i'm surprised that you ran a story about a retail mistake, joystiq. hurts my respect for you a little bit.
