Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 landing in September for $400

Aug 7th 2007 8:52PM (Engadget)
It has an HDMI port and it comes with Halo 3 dashboard themes and pics too.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD player drops to $179, adds five free movies to the mix

Jul 26th 2007 6:42AM (Joystiq)
Blu-ray is only supported by 6 of the 8 studios (no Universal or Weinstein releases) so it's more like 75% support rather than 90%. HD DVD has about 50% support with 4 of the 8 major studios (Warner, Paramount, Weinstein, and Universal). I don't see Universal ever releasing their movies/tv shows on Blu-ray. Likewise for Sony on HD DVD.

This Wednesday: Band of Bugs crawls onto XBLA (ick!)

Jun 18th 2007 3:50PM (Joystiq)
First people complain that there aren't enough games being released for Xbox Live Arcade, then when there are plenty of games released people complain that the games cost too much. It is impossible to please everyone. I think if you've made a brand new game charging $10 is reasonable. Charging $5 for old emulated arcade games is what seems unreasonable to me.

Jaffe un-promises, Calling All Cars delayed

May 2nd 2007 8:08PM (Joystiq)
I love the fact that this Jaffe cry baby goes off on Gamespot for giving the game a low score, then has to postpone the games release because of serious bugs affecting gameplay. Gee who was right and who owes Gamespot an apology.

Jaffe swears off blogging ... was it something we said?

What's the matter with you Joystiq? Don't you know "real journalists" get all of their facts and info from the NEOFAG forums. What an overrated windbag developer!

Does Microsoft need Japan to succeed?

Apr 20th 2007 4:55PM (Joystiq)
PS3 and PS2 are flat lining in Japan too. The argument that 360 needs Japan to succeed might have been somewhat relevant if the Playstation brand wasn't completely dying in Japan.

'No more online gaming for you!' says EA

Aug 6th 2006 9:30PM (Joystiq)
Thank God Microsoft doesn't let any other companies do this on Xbox Live. The games are all peer to peer, it doesn't make any sense why they need to shutdown these games other than to encourage people to buy newer versions. I like to go back and play old games online. This is yet another reason to never buy a game from EA. I guess EA games are only rentals at best and have no longterm value.

Verizon and Actiontec bring 100Mbps FiOS to homes

Jun 28th 2006 6:03PM (Engadget)
Read the story more carefully. The service is not being upped to 100Mbps. This story is just that Verizon is selling a router that is capable of handling 100Mbps. Bad Engadget. Bad!

Sidekick III shows up on the FCC

Apr 23rd 2006 1:57AM (Engadget)
I like the Sidekick devices because it has the best QWERTY keyboard of any device on the market. It also has the best AOL Instant Messenger client of any portable device on the market. I also found email and text messaging to be far better than the Windows Mobile experience. Nothing compares to having a scroll wheel for web browsing. The OS is also really clean and easy to navigate. The battery life is excellent for this type of phone and the form factor is decent, although I'd honestly prefer something more RAZR/iPod nano like. The screen is also excellent in sunlight and indoors and has a sensor that helps adjust the screen lighting based upon how much light it has. This feature also helps to preserve and maximize battery life.

However I do have a number of problems with the Sidekick in that it is T-mobile only so there isn't a high speed broadband network available for the device. I can't add a lot of the cool applications to the device that I would on a Windows Mobile or even Palm device. I would like to add applications like the Sling Media player (to watch TV) and Skype to my Sidekick, but this is simply not possible because of the T-mobile limitations and because of the locked down nature of Danger's OS. Hopefully I will at least be able to access music and video through ORB.com on the new Sidekick, but I question whether that will be possible with the proprietary web browser that the Sidekick has.

I think HTC is kind of like the old Dell or "beige box" of the smart phone industry and unfortunately they don't really seem to get it. The sidekick is not perfect and I think other companies could do far better (maybe they can't because of patent issues), but as an all in one phone I think the Sidekick line is unfortunately the best that's available. I really wish HTC could put out a hardware device that was on par with the Sidekick (5-line spacious keyboard, ambient light detecting screen visible in direct sunlight, long battery life, scroll wheel for web browsing and navigation, and in a pocketable size).

Xbox 360 snags classic 3rd-Party Nintendo title

Mar 2nd 2006 2:58PM (Joystiq)
In what way and on what planet does an Atari game get classified as a Nintendo game? Nintendo fanboys are insane. Paperboy has little to nothing to do with Nintendo. Most people who played Paperboy played it before the NES was even released. Does the Nintendo cult claim Pac-Man and Gauntlet as their own as well? Atari established the home console industry so I think they deserve to get some credit for their own games. Anyone who associates Paperboy with Nintendo is retarded, since Paperboy is a product of the Arcade era and has already been released on dozens of non-Nintendo platforms.
