MacBook / MacBook Pro rumor roundup

Oct 12th 2008 9:14PM (Engadget)
im thinking about getting a mac even if new ones come out I wouldn't mind getting the one that is out now, but if new ones come out what happens to the old ones already manufactured? do the prices lower down or do they just stop selling them?

EA Sports working on sweaty Wii Fit

May 8th 2008 3:16PM (Joystiq)
oh c'mon
Joystiq has lost their objectivity a long time ago it seems, your anger towards wii success is constant and its getting boring...
Seeing latest news, just with the titles or with their picture you are making the statement that "Wii isnt as good as Ps3 or Xbox" but it definetely brings more news than the other two consoles. It is full of shovelware like any popular console, buti t also has a lot of potential that the other two only have in graphics.
Console gaming will remain the same as far as game content, even if they get more "budgety" or with deeper stories, nothing new will come... but with this posibility at least people have other reason to use the console and thats great.

Counting Rupees: The WiiCube

Apr 24th 2008 9:33PM (Joystiq)
I think all this junk on console-software rate is leaving behind the console's lifetime so far... its obvious that xbox consumers would buy more games than nintendo's or ps3s simply because most of them have adquired their consoles way before the two recent ones (especially when you consider the shortages in wii). And even if this isn't to blame, Wii requires a lot of investment in periferals for enjoying most of the games, you need 4 wiimotes whereas rare Xbox games use more than 2 controllers, nunchucks, wiifits and wheels... with ps3 you had the expensive controllers too...
Of course the target is different and the kinds of games seem more casual-oriented in Wii, and the hardware sales in PS3 hadn't been the best, however, Wii games and Ps3 games have some other value consumers seek. Best selling wii games are multiplayer, lack a bit in history and adds in fan-service, people pick a game up and enjoy it for longer, they don't get easily bored by wii sports or smash brothers. Ps3 needs to sell their games which are a bit more pricy, so the gamer analyses the investment taken and buys just the game he knows he'll enjoy (or most of them).
Xbox is a bit more accesible and a bit more usual in teenagers homes in the states so it promotes a "fashion" of games like "this week is Halo, the next one is GTA", you need to own them, go through them faster than your friends and then when its "out" you go and pick the next one up...

Comparing the censored and uncensored versions of No More Heroes

Feb 5th 2008 4:28PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
It reminds me a little bit of Kill Bill (the movie) and i dont think it should have been uncensored because blood is so bizarrely shown that its is not as impressive as it is funny so it doesnt seem real at all, which goes great with the game sthetics, I have the uncensored version and seeing the blood pouring out is hillarious.

Best of 2007: First-party games [update]

Mario Strikers Charged
and I can tell you why: its an unexpected amazing game
we All knew Mario Galaxy would rock, but this particular game that was like "uh another Mario-sport franchise" turned out to be amazing.
Its two of my favourite things together, Smash Brothers and Soccer, in a brand new thing. When my friends come over we play a bunch of games but the one we really enjoy is Mario Strikers Charged, we laugh our a$$es off by knocking out others and make little tournaments, its amazingly fun!

Wii Warm Up: Your thoughts on piracy

Aug 7th 2007 11:43AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Well as seen in the Phillipines article and all, piracy is extremely common there for a reason, and I shall tell you why, its the same reason as in my country.

I live in Argentina, third world country blabla, games here are really expensive (original games) they would be expensive if they were around 50u$s (which would be around 170$ in our monetary system) but because of custom rates and nintendo's none-existing distributor here, games are twice as expensive, that's almost 100u$s for a game.

Now count that a regular salary here is around 800$, if you were to buy an original game would be 300 pesos, so a person with a regular salary could buy less than 3 original games a month!
If games were 50 pesos things would be different. So modchips and copies allow most people to be able to play these games.

So my thoughts are as long as Nintendo doesnt have a local distributor that sells the games and systems at regular prices they cant complain about piracy in these countries.
Besides its the only company that is actually EARNING money from the sales of their console and not losing, here a Wii brought from abroad is around 600u$s do the maths thats like 2 regular salaries for a "cheap" gaming system.
PS2 for example, copies are all over the place, but sony distributes it here, games are expensive but the console is not so it earns a lot of money selling consoles (most places sell it with chip included) and they know that, here they must have sold around 5 million consoles or so.

Rumor: Another stash of Wiis coming to Toys R Us

Mar 12th 2007 11:09AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I bought my wii last sunday on Toys R Us on Florida Mall, I went there like at 10:30 am and they still had like 10 wiis, bundled with Ice Age 2, the game kinda sucks but the "bundeled" prize for the game was 20 u$s so it wasn't a bad spending...
I hope everyone who couldn't can get one, it rocks!
