My Wiikey allows me to play import Wii and GCN games. How is that bad?
Nintendo should never have region-blocked their consoles (something both Sony and Microsoft understand). By doing so they are encouraging modchip usage. Without the stoopid region lock I wouldn't have Wiikey, and can therefore enjoy Bomberman and my Japanese version of Ikaruga. Simple as that.
I live in Asia, and there are loads of great Japanese games that don't require knowledge of the language to play them, but I have a North American Wii. That should not stop me from playing games designed for the console, and certainly not force me to buy another Wii.
American McGee doesn't make it on this list? The guy doesn't do much of shit. He should be #1 on the bogus game designer shitlist hit parade!
American McGee Presents Scrapland... boy, does anyone know who really designed the game? Probably not. It certainly wasn’t him. While the game title does not state he designed it, most anyone that sees the title will say, "Hey, a game designed by Mr McGee!", giving no credit to the real designers, Mercury Steam, the Spanish developers.
His Alice game had two things going for it: EA resources, and EA budget. Look at the incredibly asinine and horribly mangled Bad Day LA, where he worked with another team lacking in resources and budget, and you can see that the guy does not do miracles.
In fact, the guy doesn't do much at all except market his name correctly. The guy doesn't have an original bone in his body. Alice was a rip-off from the Lewis Caroll tale. His new "IP" (right, rip off someone else's idea and call it your own), based on Grimm's fairy tales, is another example of how completely uninspired and unoriginal he is. Getting someone’s idea and making it “quirky and darker” is not original. Hell, for that matter, I’ll just scan the Mona Lisa and photochop it so that she looks “goth” and darken the background, include bats, and maybe a pumpkin.
Hmm… let’s see… American McGee presents the Iliad! American McGee presents Antigone! American McGee presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream! (Crap… just game him some more ideas to “IP” and claim as his own…)
The only thing he's got right is his marketable name, and even there you have his parents to thank, because he didn't think of it. That, and an ego the size of Jupiter's nearest moon, is all he has going for him.
How can it be that Miyamoto, who actually created some of the best IP and games, and mentored the next generation of designers in Nintendo's camp is even mentioned, let alone on the list, and not the piss-poor hack that is Mr McGee is way beyond my comprehension. Previously a cultural icon, now a Nintendo PR puppet, at least he DID something (many things, actually) to earn his cred.
American McGee has done far more damage to the industry by not including the names of the real developers and designers of the games he is able to slap his name on thanks to it being ridiculously gimmicky.
So in the end, he attends the PR events and gets all the credit while the poor guys trying to earn a living while slaving away at the computers actually developing the games get absolutely no recognition and whose names just as easily dismissed and tossed away into the rubbish pile of abandon.
360 is darker - some parts you could not make out.
PS3's looks more "cinematic" probably because it has some camera/filter effects causing the distance blur, which looks nice in my opinion. The 360's textures in the distance look too sharp.
The 360 mech looks cartoonish - too metallic, out of place with the rest of the visuals.
None of this really means much, however. These could simply be design decisions or developers being slack (let's just reuse textures!). At most, it leaves me wondering why the PS3 commands a 300usd premium. This game doesn't do it for me...
And... how is this better than the visuals I get from my dog-slow PC???
Very curious to know whether your port will be available for free or not. I hope it's not (or at least dirt-cheap), given the nature of the product. If that's the case, I applaud you and everyone's efforts on the OLPC. The world needs more projects like this one to bridge the technological divide.
Being a father of one, and with another to follow, my gaming days are also numbered. But, I can still deal with some more complexity sometimes (especially when my son is asleep).
You don't need to go full-bore into complexity, like playing 8-hour shifts to level up in WoW - now that's a seriously complex commitment! However, If you gave me, as an example, Wii Sports Golf vs Tiger Woods Golf for the Wii, I'll take Tiger any day, thanks.
It's striking a balance between the complex and simple, but there is one huge drawback to simplicity: you can't make it more complex; the reverse, however, is not always true for complexity, which can be simplified, which was my point about Miis - I bet you can make Mii-like avatars with the PS3, but not the other way around.
I can completely see your point about Miis. My wife loves the concept. I do too. But still, for me at least, the PS3 has Wii beat this time around in the customization department.
Yep, all the consoles have their share of fansluts.
I'm guilty of being a fanboy as well - here's my credo:
* The Games I Play Have No Flaws * The Games I Play Are Not Broken, They're Hard-Core * Praising Another Game Is the Same as Insulting The One I Play * Everyone's Gaming Habits Are Biased but Mine
There. Stick whatever console you want among the bullet points. Couldn't care less, as long as I have a blast while I'm at it.

Sega poll preludes rebirth of NiGHTS?
Mar 8th 2007 3:01AM (Joystiq)True, true, but given their track record of late, I don't hold high hopes that they can do that.
But here's hoping Sega can revive some old IP/franchises and make them compelling games for the current generation.
