Microsoft: Vista sells nearly 40 million licenses in first 100 days
May 16th 2007 11:13AM (Engadget)I used Vista for 10 days before I got so fed up I couldn't stay it anymore and put my boxed version of XP Pro SP2 on my Compaq P4 Dual Core with 1GB ram and 250 MB SATA drive and all of a sudden my PC got way faster and I was able to immediately see significant productivity gains as a result of the switch.
Vista is a big steamy pile of poo! IMHO.
Funny how MS seems to not want to talk about how many of those "sales" were with bundled PCs and laptops. No shit Sherlock! Doesn't mean that consumers dig the new OS especially when we've seen the backlash from the biggest player in the market. Dell.

Will the OLPC interface ruin computing for millions of kids?
Nov 26th 2006 11:17AM (Download Squad)Just watching the short video I can see too many UI inconsistencies that make the UI very confusing for regular computer uses never mind a child who has NEVER used such technology.
I think it would have made better sense to make the Sugar UI more of a taskbar like application that more closely matches whatever interface the OLPC program uses and allows the user to gradually move away from the Sugar UI as they become more familiar with the underlying UI.
My humble 2ยข worth... great project! Wish we could do the same on our continent with the poor and underprivileged.
Wii ennui from Slate: "Nintendon't" [update 1]
Nov 21st 2006 3:58PM (Joystiq)The Wii is simple, intuitive and NATURAL.
Sounds like either sour grapes or someone doesn't take the time read the manual to learn how to calibrate his WiiMote instead decides to spend even more time picking the entire platform.
Those who can do. Those who can't write about it!
New Wii owners: your impressions?
Nov 20th 2006 12:33PM (Joystiq)The Wii and it's controllers (WiiMote/Nunchuck) are simply amazing. Nothing played so far (WiiSports/Zelda) feels "tacked on" as some have said. What's important to remember is that the intuitive and very responsive Wiimote/Nunchuck control system is NOT a button mashers remote and it WILL take a bit of getting used to.
The Wii will change the way people of all ages look at gaming from now on. It really is the Revolution Nintendo promised and I don't need a $3000 television and $700 console to enjoy it! :)
EA clarifies Battlefield 2142's IGA spyware
Oct 18th 2006 11:42AM (Joystiq)I don't want to sound like those scabs at AT&T but I pay for my bandwidth, in fact I pay a premium so my bandwidth is NOT capped.
The fact that these companies think that they can STEAL my bandwidth for revenue generating advertising by incorporating the "ad engine" in the game is patently obsurd. (Hint: if it runs as a spearate application or process you can setup a rule in Norton Anti-Virus or firewall software to not allow it to access the internet)
I can see this type of activity getting completely out of hand with the next-gen consoles from SONY and MS when sales start falling. They'll try and sell as a big value add proposition when really all they are doing to stealing and leeching the bandwidth you paid for. And I can see these companies making complete access to the internet a requirement of EULA.
Like here in Canada, Bell ExpressVu forces their customers to connect a phoneline to their receivers in order to order movies. They wouldn't dare make that requirement for the satellite service cause then they would be forcing one of their services to be purchased in order to use another when both are paid separately and governed by separate contracts.
Consumers need to have clear and entrenched rights when it comes to the internet and these types of activities especially when they NEED your equipment, bandwidth and hard disk space to complete their revenue making business model.
