Mortal Kombat on XBLA in November, reveals Midway
Oct 10th 2006 4:06PM (Joystiq)I've got Street Fighter II Turbo on the
3DO and it looks & sounds twice as
good as my 360 demo that I downloaded.
It take ages to load on the antique console
though.
Why didn't they port this version? /shrugs
PS3 Oblivion's exclusive quest explained
Oct 10th 2006 3:19PM (Joystiq)You just move the dificulty slider all the way to
the left and you can kill champions with a pointy
stick!
Also if you go fully invisible which is not too difficult, you become an untouchable God.
Greatly involving game and technicaly impressive.
Slightly buggy but acceptable considering it's depth and size meaning hours of play.Long loading times though!
8/10

Gamestop, EB Wii preorders starting this week?
Oct 10th 2006 2:27PM (Joystiq)great design,entertainment and value.
As for the PS3,it sounds like an expensive
mistake. It's hardware was changed in the last minute
to accomodate the RSX because the CELL could no way
match the 360 on it's own so someone had to quick fix
it.
What developer will truly harness the CELL CPU?Developers are having a headache with PC's with dual-cpu's.The 360 is difficult with 3 and well
lets just say the CELL is like juggling 7 balls instead of 3,ie,stupidly difficult to crack.
My bet is most developers will use the PowerPC bit
and the odd PPU which will severely cripple it's output, sad but true for a good few years I'm afraid.
The joypad lost the rumble feature and gained a less
useful tilt feature that cries Mii too when we all know that it's just a tacky add-on.
Many games use rumble and it's a major blow and ultimately a step-backwards in gaming compared to the competition.
The tolerances for playing a Blu-Ray disk are incredibly small so expect games to fail whilst loading
if your manufactured drive is sloppy or gets the slightest of knocks while gaming and you thought DVD's were bad!Load times will sadly lag behind the competition too due to a slow 2X read.
As for online gaming, many developers are simply
excluding online play as Sony havn't got the POWER
to create an XBLIVE killer at this time...DOH!
I could go on about their arrogant image and how
they have hurt many gamers feelings when it comes to
release dates, the treating of Europe and their regional
pricing strucure but that is probably too much, oops,
I already have,nevermind!
'Next Gen' is a selling phrase to tell the public it's new and that is all.Powerful PC rigs a year old will still piss all over PS3 in terms of raw accessible power for many years and cream all over that 1080P
selling point which is totaly dumb in every way.
720P on a 40" TV looks almost imperceptible from 1080P
from 5 feet away so all that processing power would be
wasted and could be used for effects, detail or practicaly anything else but resolution.Another thing is compare the price of the 2 TV's,then compare them side to side from 5 feet away and you'll learn the
devastating truth about True-HighDef BS!
720P is the sweet spot and I expect games on both
PS3 and 360 to use that resolution whilst pumping
the framerate to 60fps with tons of particle effects, etc.
If your buying the PS3 for certain exclusives then
fine,it's all about the games but never forget that
exclusives change hands all the time!

Joystiq Poll: Do you watch cutscenes? [update 1]
Oct 8th 2006 5:43PM (Joystiq)and should be watched at all times because they make the game.
That is why the PS3 will rule because only
Blu-Ray stores the most CGI in 1080P.
I actualy prefer to watch a game than play it.
Infact...I don't like games atall!
Joystiq hands-on: Call of Duty 3
Oct 8th 2006 5:13PM (Joystiq)How I laugh still now....
Big up for the Wii for having extra fun....it will need it!
Crytek revises claim: Crysis could be ported
Oct 8th 2006 4:15PM (Joystiq)It makes crap business sense to create a game where only a small percentage of people will actualy be able
to play it as it was meant to be played,ie,with all detail to the max.
Lets face it,this was a business decision to downgrade it to make more money but the fact is,it will be probably competeting with better games on the market.I've no doubt John Carmack of ID could create 3D visuals to surpass Crysis with less hardware demand.
Blu-ray will beat HD-DVD, says Forrester (again)
Oct 8th 2006 2:31PM (Joystiq)They will just be like DVD-Audio,ie,for a niche market
who will pay the extra to get better quality even if you won't notice it.Try seeing a difference on anything less than a 42" between an upscaling DVD player and a high def one playing the same film on a 32" screen.
Older films are low-res grainy affairs that will have to be upscaled and filtered to look better.
For that reason a good upscaling DVD player which is cheaper and will upscale your whole collection for free will be enough for most people.
I wait for films to come down to a third of it's price before I buy so waiting for HD movies to do the same is unlikely to ever match that value.
How many people have upgraded their TV yet?
Those who have, may have to upgrade again because they have lower-res 720P without HDMI 1.3 (Deep-Colour!)
It's just getting too expensive to keep up with all this constantly changing specs technology and it's pissing the consumer off.
I'm also guessing that newer tech is around the corner producing 2160P visuals in uncompressed form just as the sound has become uncompressed 6.1 PCM audio.Whether its Holographic Disk or piped into your homes it's going to happen.
Sticking with DVD is the best valued choice right now and the majority of people are price conscious.
