I've been playing since beta so.. a while? I don't know the specific time, and can't log in now, so... let's just say "too many". It's up to you to make it "more than too many".

Breakfast Topic: Does your guild's social reputation matter?

Sep 4th 2010 1:00PM (WoW)
I think you're all taking this slightly too seriously. While there is a social aspect to the game, it is still just a game. It is nothing better than that. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head and making them play.

First of all, if everyone is kind and polite and virtuous, that's all well and good, but that's not reality. In reality, people aren't always as good or as altruistic or as open-minded as you hope. That's just the way humanity works.

Second of all, I would agree that reputation matters, but not specific to what's regarded as a "good" reputation. There are, and there should be ne'er-do-wells out there. People can cry about it and complain that they shouldn't have to endure such things, when they're paying $15/mo. for service, but ultimately, it's going to be something they have to deal with.

So, then, I believe reputation, good and bad, matters, as a social tool, but not really. This is just a game. If you lack the social skills to cope with the antics of anonymous avatars on your computer screen, just alt-f4 and do something else. Seriously. If someone bothers you in the game, ignore them. If it ever gets to you, gets under your skin, then you're just not long for this world; reality is often far harsher.
