Report: Mercedes readying first-ever TV ads for R Class

Jun 23rd 2010 3:55PM (Autoblog)
@ John H

I love that the BMW/Mercedes/Ferrari body shop had to buy special grinders and drills because the steel was so hard that it broke their normal equipment. They said it was the hardest steel they ever had to work on in a car.

I love the space - that instead of driving a pickup I can drive this and get almost equal utility. 6.5' long bed space.

I love that I can cram in corporate visitors from Europe, open the roof and give them a beautiful tour of our city.

I love that it stands out / makes an impression.

I love that I don't care about RPM's as it is an automatic and thus this also takes care of the 'wunder stick ' issue. Also, the steering wheel has paddle like buttons for those that are shift happy.

I love how well the bluetooth setup works.

I love that I press a button in the car, within 60min a Mercedes tech shows up to work on the car & will have loaner for me if the car needs to be taken in.

I love that it is over 6000lbs GVW for tax purposes.

I love that it gets such a visceral reaction from people like you.... which means it is making an impression. Not just another 3 series on the road.

Report: Mercedes readying first-ever TV ads for R Class

We love our R Class. From SF we can get to LA on one tank of gas. We can carry 1000's of lbs of material (when we pick up from a job site). It is comfortable. And most importantly it definitely saved my mothers life when we got hit by a drunk driver at a combined speed of almost 100mph.

The sad part is that you can't get an R500 anymore. We've driven the R350 and it does not compare to the R500. It is a heavy car and needs the big engine.

@Chazzz

We have a Pacifica and an R-Class. The R is a mile ahead.

People have to realize you can carry 1000's of pounds in this car. We use it like you would use a pickup. Carry lots of delivery material all over the state. Love it.

BMW wants more people to custom-order X3s with high-margin options

This doesn't work. On a new ML you are looking for 3+ months to get in a production line.

Because I'm giving the company the 'courtesy' of not stocking my ride I want two things:
1) (& required) The car company then the company could at least have to courtesy to put me at the front of the line. In front of the dealers 'stocking' inventory orders.
2) (& unlikely) some sort of factory order discount.

@Bad Manners

For a second I thought it is something in something.

Then I thought "Tauntaun!"

Then I moaned and said ... oh so lame.

These are driving around California. Part of the Fuel Cell projects.

Engadget goes legs-on with Honda's walking-assist devices (with video!)

This would be perfect for my father. He is 70+ and has Post Polio Syndrome. His leg muscle nerves are dying. One of his biggest problems is going to trade shows and the walking needed. We have toyed with the idea of a segway but this seems a little better.

I wonder if Medicare would pay for it?

How would you change HP's MediaSmart Server ex485 / ex487?

It NEEDS to serve up small databases. Like Quickbooks, Filemaker etc... There is no reason not to have this feature via a non pool drive. It is just MS wanting us to buy the full SBS.

We have a small little company (2 people) and this thing, if it just did that, would make me happy.

We do have one.

Apple should be investigated for market manipulation. They are just trying to limit Palms access to chips.

I would be happy to get Cable/DSL.

It would be nice if the cable/phone companies would stop improving already decent service and look to those who are undeserved.
