Who needs science and research studies when we have religion and Left Behind: Eternal Forces? It's as obvious as daylight and pompous pseudo-journalism.
Seriously, I think the interesting part of the study is in quantifying the amount of energy expended. Sure, we spend more energy... but how much? Did you know that the brain, yes the brain, is the greatest consumer of energy in the human body?
Nintendo could have left out the weather channel and I'd still be happy with the Wii. I didn't buy it for the weather and news channels. However, I'm glad they put it in and I'm really glad they put some effort into it, particularly the Globe. The globe view is kinda fun and much more than I could get from weather sites online. It's more definitely fun to look at weather in places around the globe than just your own neighborhood.
I really hope Google Earth comes to Wii. The control scheme for globe seems perfectly suited for it.
Does it sound better to you? Isn't that what it's all about: enjoyment? Is that difference worth the cost?
The audio purists can have their argument, but really, if you are an audio purist then you should not be using MP3 or any lossy compression. Most definitely, you should not be using your Mac's onboard DAC.
With a product like this, you should really be allowed a 30-day risk free trial.
The Wii controller uses Bluetooth (RF) to communicate with the console. The IR sensor in the controller is only necessary when the controller is used in conjunction with the sensor bar as a pointer. The sensor bar doesn't actually have any sensors. It just provides two IR beacons to indicate the top (or bottom) of the TV screen.
The comparison is interesting, but not well setup. How general is it? They compared loading speed by loading 1 12.7 MB HTML page. So we see how the browsers perform on that one page. What about other ones? What about pages that I typically visit?
It would be nice if they had evaluated performance on a representative sample of pages.
Loading HTML from local disk is also different from a network connection. Caching? Did they make sure to flush OSX's disk cache? It would've been more interesting if they had setup a webserver on their LAN to serve the page.
Cult of Mac's title: "Miracle Reported: Apple Contemplates Policy Change"
The first sentence from CBS-5's page: "(CBS 5) You wouldn't think a letter from a third-grader could change a company's corporate practices."
The linked story is really about how this one little girl's experience has lead Apple to reconsider their policy. Of course organizations like Fisher-Price or NASA and even the White House expect letters from school children and their staff are probably trained to deal with them. Who didn't write to NASA or the President while in grade school? Apple on the other hand, probably did not expect to receive letters from 3rd graders. They've only recently begun to reaching a larger and younger market.
That's not a mac mini case. It's a G4 Cube case with an attachment to allow you to stack mini on top. This is the mac mini case:
