Keeping SSDs in TRIM: doing the math

Mar 28th 2011 12:44PM (TUAW.com)
When May rolls around, go ahead and do it. I have an early '08 MBP as well, and it has completely changed the performance characteristics of the machine.

TiVo asks customers about live iPad streaming

Works with FiOS, so I don't know what you're complaining about. AT&T U-Verse or something? There's not a single DVR on the market besides the one AT&T puts out there that works on that IPTV system.

Rumor: Odin Sphere and Muramasa HD remakes coming to XBLA, PSN

@(Unverified) Funny, while there is significant slowdown when fighting the Underworld Queen in Act I, that is the worst of it, the rest of the game performed relatively OK (I finished it 100%)

Sony, TiVo, NCTA and others chime in on CableCARD's replacement

Jul 15th 2010 8:19PM (Engadget)
@Nathan B The irony of this is that Hulu doesn't WANT people to give up their cable: they are owned by cable giants, after all, and the one of the prime reasons Hulu was able to be successful was access to all of that content without having to make a deal with a 3rd party.

TiVo has... something to announce March 2 in NYC

@arkweld You have not considered market capitalization:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=TIVO
vs.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=NFLX
In short, NetFlix's is 3x higher (as of today), so it is much to expensive for that buyout to be possible.

@BeingBoston Actually most CE set-top boxes (like Blu-ray players, etc) are MIPS-based, not ARM. Meanwhile, the mobile phone market has been mostly ARM for several years now.

Google and TiVo partner to analyze viewer data, sell ads, get filthy rich

Nov 24th 2009 7:18PM (Engadget)
@PGPProtector Honestly, it's a waste of your time to bother thinking about this. The data is anonymized (as described in the post). The servers that collect the data has no way of correlating it to your own account, and TiVo has been upfront with this for some time.

NVIDIA CEO shoots down talk of Intel-compatible x86 chip, says his home is 'all Apple'

I would say it's not so much that he looks LIKE Kim Jong Il as much as that his shirt with the browns and reds gives him a decidedly communist look.

Ask Engadget HD: Is it (still) a good time to buy a TiVo?

Nov 2nd 2009 11:01AM (Engadget HD)
For the SDV issue, TiVo officially supports the use of "tuning resolvers" (basically a USB device that does the upstream end of channel changing the way the cable companies' units do) that solve this.

You can also get an eSATA expansion drive (WD "MyDVR" 500GB & 1TB) for S3 & TiVoHD for pretty cheap, to get more storage for your unit.
