All men die. Not all men really live.

It's like a bad set piece out of Star Trek: The Next Generation !
Is it teh ugly, or is it the FUTURE? :)

US government lays out cash for wall-based, in-home 'smart meters'

While the snarkiness of the original post is notable, it's worth pointing out that "telling people to just turn off stuff when they aren't using it" is not of lasting value.

Without getting political about the costs of implementing this, the point is to draw attention to people's ACTUAL use by monitoring it, and doing appropriate things to /reduce/ one's own energy bills (as well as conserve energy in general). Without the reinforcement of units like these, a lot of people just do "whatever" and don't pay any attention to their actual energy use. I would go farther and say to people "Look at what you'll be able to do with the money you saved from energy efficiency". Kinda like the Geico "Money staring at you" commercials.

Uh, but they're completely different styles of games. If you have a specific budget for gaming, I understand. But the games are totally different experiences. New SMB Wii for me will probably be about the co-op.

Blockbuster On Demand goes live on TiVo boxes

The S2s can't handle Netflix / YouTube etc. because they have older video-decoding hardware that doesn't decode H.264 that used by these new services. The processor can't software-decode, so there is a very legitimate reason for the new hardware not to handle them that has nothing to do with "leaving S2s out in the cold".

VMWare Fusion 2.06 hits the streets

Apparently there are driver problems with Boot Camp partitions, causing much of these performance problems. See the Known Problems for 2.0.6

Peek Pronto with lifetime service: $299

Sep 28th 2009 6:29PM (Engadget)
TiVo Series 1s still get data, but no more software updates. There's a difference between "support forever" and "it still works".

Gadget lifetimes tend to be quite short, and a device like a Peek probably has a shorter lifetime than your average TiVo.

Wacom's Bamboo Pen & Touch unboxed and previewed

Are you intimating that Wacom isn't doing a good job supporting hardware from 15 years ago? Okay. Interfaces have changed considerably in that time. USB was revolutionary for peripherals.

I have virtually NO hardware from that era that is still supported, except maybe a PC keyboard. Complaints about a 1995 tablet are pretty absurd, IMO.

Microsoft's Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000: barely thicker than a stack of hundies

Apparently you haven't seen how high my stacks of hundies are.

Apple's iPod event set for September 9th with nary a tablet in sight?

Aug 17th 2009 10:04PM (Engadget)
LOL, Microsoft never openly admits to Vista sucking. They just had to face the numbers, and tried their darndest to advertise that it was "teh WOW", remember? Many advertising campaigns failed for Microsoft w.r.t. Vista.

When Apple releases a niche or "failed" product, it fades away because there is no interest and they are admitting defeat by giving up on it: they don't speak of it again. Vista is a whole different beast, because most computers sold today SHIP with it by default (except netbooks and Macs).

So if Apple releases a tablet and it's a failure, it will fade away like anything else, and there's nothing wrong with that. Trying to shove it in everyone's face after it is clearly substandard is FAR more offensive to me.
