Crytek boss: free game demos 'prohibitively expensive'

Apr 17th 2010 8:14AM (Joystiq)
So this is our latest model, it's a 2010 sedan with A/C, electric windows, GPS navigation, dolby surround, leather interior, five year free warranty and maintenance and it does 0 to 60 in 4,5 seconds. Would you like to take a 500$ test drive now? No? Why not? Hey wait ... come back!

'Breach' game code theft at PAX East ends in arrest [update]

Mar 30th 2010 9:14AM (Joystiq)
Now can you say "PR stunt"? A game studio marketing something called "Breach" that has it's security "breached" during a popular convention and even successfully apprehends the suspect? Sounds really fishy to me. No self-respecting hacker would have a traceable XBL account don't you think?

Unreal Engine 3 coming to Palm WebOS soon

And the Linux version of this was announced THREE years ago and is nowhere to be seen. Rid-icculus.

Study links violent games to violent thoughts and behavior

Mar 1st 2010 5:55PM (Joystiq)
What about the other way around? Why has no one ever tried to study if people who, for whatever reason, are likely to have aggressive thoughts enjoy video games more than their more relaxed peers? I would argue it makes much more sense for someone to be influenced by our incredibly screwed up societies to take up a violent past time than to actually become violent because of virtual gunslinging. Video games are fast paced, generally indiscriminately brutal and interchangeable. Just like people get treated in the modern work environment and many social circles. Chew on that psychologists. I study that stuff in college and there's always two ways you can approach such a question.

Hackers apparently create dedicated MW2 servers, gain super powers

Nov 17th 2009 6:07AM (Joystiq)
I bet the "hackers" work at Infinity Ward and are now all like "See, see? We told you dedicated servers would be like totally bad and shit. All the cheating you see."

Meanwhile in reality ... "do want"

Brutal Legend video talks about the competition

Oct 9th 2009 7:48PM (Joystiq)
I'm sorta getting fed up with the marketing. Give me the game already. Pre-ordered that three different times so far. If it's half as good as the demo promised I'll sit through another Jack Black in rubber arms video. But seriously, he should ACTUALLY get buff like that. Then I'd bromance him even more.

Activision 'Rocktober' trademark conflicts with EA's Brutal Legend marketing

Sep 29th 2009 8:43AM (Joystiq)
At first they said Activision suing over BrĂ¼tal Legend was like an ex-husband that sued over the better looking new guy his wife found? Now they've started flinging poo at his car and saying "She's faking it, you know!" onto answering machine.

If this is what the culture between billion dollar publishers is. And THIS (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/6228-Yahtzees-Prototype-vs-InFamous-Challenge) is what it is between developers. I can only hope many many big publishers die as soon as possible.

Not gonna happen, I know but it's weird how they grow up to become even more like babies.

PSA: Brutal Legend demo now on Xbox Live; PSN must wait

Sep 24th 2009 2:35PM (Joystiq)
Again Europe and the rest of the world gets shafted. Could someone explain to me again why I should pay for XBL Gold?

PSA: Brutal Legend demo available today for pre-orders

Sep 17th 2009 2:18PM (Joystiq)
More like

retailers: gets pre-orders
developer: gets confirmed sales (until consumers withdraw preorders)
consumer: gets shafted if he/she happens to live in a third world country without internet or retail chains like say Germany

Really now, there is but a handful of people that can actually pre order this game. I for one can't preorder that from any "officially supported" store despite living in the second largest video games market of the world. I pre-ordered that game with Amazon UK in June. A quarter of a year ago. But I don't get early access because ... right ... Amazon's not charging for pre-orders. This marketing bullshit is getting on my balls.
