Sadly, lack of a solid narrative. is the the problem that is most pervasive of the Japanese RPG. That's not to say that Western rpgs don't rely on role-playing cliches to move their story along, developers such as Bioware or Bethesda have managed to tell their stories with the maturity needed to make an enthralling narrative.

Postwarpenace made a great point about growing older and jrpgs seemingly staying the same. It just seems that Japanese developers are okay with churning out the same damn things because there is a market for it.

The gamestop near me is demoing this as well.

This game is making me feel bad for not playing it on the PC. It's a great game on consoles, but man, the shit you can do on the PC makes me jealous.

While I am a fan of how cinematic the MGS games were, I never really found them engaging as actual games (except MGS3, since that is the greatest MGS game ever made). I'm curious to see what changes Kojima has in store for the franchise.

Though one has to wonder why he constantly announces that he's finished with the franchise, only to be involved with a sequel or spin-off project.
