Is "3X DVD" HD DVD's secret weapon against Blu-ray?

Feb 20th 2007 5:43PM (Engadget HD)
Hiding behind my name? My real name happens to be Steve as well but I prefer Steven since one syllable names tend to sound childish to me.

Sony owned: Columbia, Tristar, Sony Pictures, Screen Gems, Triumph Films, Destination Films, and now MGM, United Artists, etc.

Paramount is on the verge on being owned by Sony, as well as Bueno Vista since Sony has major stock in Disney. Ok, dumb***.

It's a good thing that Japanese polls show how UNpopular the Blu-Ray format is, look it up. So I guess unpopular means at least 90% in your vocab. In mine it means less than 50%, and you think the war is won there...hmm.

Whatever you believe or dig up in some blog, I guess your willing to accept the misfortune of not only being wrong in the end but also selling your last bit of integrity to stoop to my level of badgering.

Again, what am I a fanboy of? I presented the facts of Sony's arrogance, deception, brute force marketing, and misleading marketing ploys to get their products into homes. Because you have a blind bias to Blu-ray from Sony's marketing, that makes YOU the fanboy.

There is also the "fake critic" and "malicious software" articles. I'll back up your more "than 2-3" with an additional 7 for Microsoft but this isn't about them. It's about Blu-Ray and Sony's attempt at media dominance once again.

On your second feed, I think you fail to realize that those were a necessity at the time, Blu-Ray is not. Ten years from now? Sure, but by then we will have a new medium and Sony will probably try and trump that as well.

Wonderboy, blindly accepting what you are forced to eat is very "intelligent" consumerism, isn't it, hippocrate. Note the sarcasm and observation of your hypocrisy.

I know what a fanboy is, my question is what am I a fanboy of? Try reading the posts instead of skimming them.

I never said Blu-Ray is Sony tech but Sony is the major marketer for the unnecessary format.

Um, let's see, Steve...

MORE capacity (200 gigs from TDK) ...Oh yea so necessary for the average consumer, let's let millions of people spend money on something they won't use!

MORE studio support ...Hmm, I wonder why, maybe it's because Sony owns most of them, moron again!

MORE manufacturer support ...Owns or financially supports most of them as well. Can you think of more reasons other than Sony's monopolistic persuasions?

MORE contents ...Yes, the average consumer will spend 10's of hours on one video, watching all the director's comments, all the bloopers, all the different clips, storing their "gigabytes" of data, etc., etc. Are you F'ing serious?! The average consumer is WORKING THEIR ASS OF TO AFFORD ALL THIS UNNECESSARY CRAP THEY DON"T EVEN HAVE TIME TO USE!

MORE sales ...Again, with the monopoly.

MORE support around the world ...Oh yes, Austrailia is important in deciding the global market.

You guys really need to open your eyes. I said it before and I'll say it now, it's people like you that make it more difficult for the average consumer to own new technology and it's people like you that give companies their monopolies.

Why don't you help others instead of helping yourselves? Your self-centered and arrogant just like Sony and their brute force marketing of Blu-Ray.

I have no diary. It took 2 minutes to resource the previous links on Sony's self-destructive ways.

I can see that although you may not "name call" as you put it, you stoop to even lower levels of maturity by speaking of me in the 3rd person instead of to me. Nice, if you have kids, I hope you don't neglect them like that also.

Well, I can see that a person can't brute force any persuasion into an argument...oh wait Sony can because of morons like Steve. Is that name calling? No. It's an observation, Steve. If your weren't so mindless and blind to the truth behind Sony's marketing you wouldn't be a moron but unfortuantely for you, you are.

It's unfortunate that you have no consumer conscience and you contribute to the arrogance of Sony and its brute force marketing of Blu-Ray.

Burn all your money now kids...or should I say stubborn fools, no I better not because Steve would think I'm name calling. You all think you're "choosing" the right format but answer me this, "How do you make a balanced choice when Sony is known for its deception and arrogance?"

As a side, like I care about this, not one of you has presented any significant average consumer argument to counter my statements and presented facts about Sony and Blu-ray.

I rest my case.

For all you people who think I'm a fanboy of something (I don't know what though) or think I'm pulling anger for Sony out of my arse then read these.

Don't forget about all the other marketing crap (like the racist PSP ads and deceptive PSP marketing blog) WE as CONSUMERS have to put up with.

PSP crap

Anything else? Now who's the one without common sense, Wonderboy?

Wonderboy, again, who am I a fanboy for?

Lack of common sense? Standardizing a product for the consumer is what is needed for cheaper pricing, etc., etc., this is turn standardizes it for the developers, publishers, etc., etc. Hello? This is my point exactly you moron.

The reason BD is "closer" as you put it is because Sony is NOT in negotiations for standardizing the format. Sony IS using BRUTE FORCE through the PS3 and proprietary persuasion in owning many music and video studios, and other companies (software included) to standardize Blu-Ray because they've put a buttload of money into trying to control the whole global media community! It's what Sony has always done and blind little mice like yourself are the ones that fall for it!

You people need to wake up and realize you're being persuaded once again to follow a media monger just like you did when Microsoft began it's monopoly. It's people like you that ruin it for everyone. WAKE THE F UP!

Once a nimble innovator known for the coolest gadgets, it became a bloated, bureaucratic conglomerate. Now, Sony's arrogance in the global community is going to bring the company down.

Your P.S. remark is confusing and thus meritless. Your lack of understanding for marketing is apparent.

Fanboy? For who?

Blu-Ray PQ is "looking better" than HD-DVD PQ, oh no, better CHOOSE Blu-Ray then! Apart from your "feelings", tell me what average consumer is going to seriously ponder the consequences of PQ functionality. Stick to your W.O.W., techno-geek world, man.

The argument here is STANDARDIZING the format for the CONSUMER, NOT for the developers, publishers, and small time technophiles. What is the better CHOICE for the average consumer? HD-DVD, by far.

Oh, and I don't see Toshiba saturating the market with their name attached to the HD-DVD format. Does anyone else? I didn't think so but Sony on the other hand...hmmm. Stop being a Sonypuppet, Steve.

Shane, the problem is that the average consumer doesn't have the technological knowledge to MAKE a BALANCED CHOICE. They rely on the oxymoron of "honesty of marketing" and give me a break their is NO honesty in marketing. Sony is one of the best marketing companies out their because they BOAST their products through arrogant domination and deceive the average consumer (probably worse than oldschool Microsoft).

CHOICE in any case where Sony has a hand is NOT balanced choice.

If this posts twice it's because I didn't get a confirmation email the first time.

So many comments! Why would anyone read all the way down to mine! Anyway, it is inevitable that Blu-Ray will not succeed and Sony will once again be left licking themselves because 1. they will need to heal their wounds and 2. they have a narcissistic problem that emerges from their arrogance.

HD-DVD IS more CONSUMER friendly
HD-DVD IS cheaper to manufacture, distribute, upgrade
HD-DVD HAS better video quality
HD-DVD IS a STANDARD and is NOT owned by any one company

The problem why Blu-Ray/HD-DVD is not taking off is because the majority of people don't even have HD capability to care about any of this!

Blu-Ray is more popular with you isolated techno-freaks because you have no brain to think for yourselves. "Hey, Sony is telling us Blu-Ray is better that means I should buy it because I'm an idiot, don't do my own research, and do everything Sony says!"

Sony and their brute force marketing of the PS3 and Blu-Ray have clouded your minds and made you ALL look like MORONS! WAKE THE F UP and stop being a Sonypuppet!
