PS3 Poll Police: Is Lair still worth it or not?

Aug 13th 2007 11:55AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I'm curious if anyone actually read the EGM magazine review... There is a sidebar where Factor 5 responds to the issues EGM had with the game and pretty much says "these are the choices we made to implement our vision of the game".

My guess is that the build EGM played was "final" but Factor 5 is adding tweaks in response to criticism. We'll know for sure if the shippied version of the game will allow analog flight control and address the other, valid issues raised by reviewers: i.e. the lack of a map and ambiguous mission objectives.

Lair delayed until September 4th

Spence: As I recall, all the early previews commented on the bad frame rate and awkward controls, while praising the graphics. Then the game went sorta dark and we haven't heard a lot of "hands on" reports, just some impressive looking game play videos.

I doubt they can make major changes to the controls in two weeks, so I suspect they are fixing a major crash bug or some other error caught during by the press playing final code for review.

PS3 sales go down the drain, slight clog

Apr 3rd 2007 5:21PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@Colin: 360 was sold out from pretty much day 1 due to supply constraints. So tecnically they sold 100% of what was available, which was 0.

I agree with Nick in that there is anything to worry about from these numbers. You can't expect huge sales with the cost of the console as it is. I'd begin to worry if PS3 sales are still in the doldrums at the end ofthe year.

Demand for PS3 is "phenomenal"

Mar 21st 2007 7:06PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@ Justin: "It is truly a piece of equipment for the high end home theater enthusiast"

The PS3 is so obviously NOT designed for the home theatre enthusiast it is laughable. If SCEE had taken the time to meet with their own people(the ones that design their TV's and other electronics), the PS3 wouldn't be missing an IR receiver or the ability to scale Blu-Ray movies to 720p. These features exist on Sony's own standalone Blu-Ray player, so there's no excuse for them not to be included on the PS3. /rant

Background downloading while playing games CONFIRMED!

But does it work for EVERY game(PS1/2, DL titles) and will it work on US consoles? Hopefully we'll find out tomorrow! ;)

PS3's power -- untapped for years?

Mar 7th 2007 12:57PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Silly question: How does one "know" what the potential for a product as complex as a games console is until you have seen it? If Dave has seen this magic application that "properly shows off the power of the PS3" please enlighten us all where it might be found.

Obviously games will get better as time passes and developers learn more about the hardware. But it is up to the 1st party to create something that developers can aspire to. We all know what this is. Killzone 2, as good as the target renders shown at E3 '05, playable. This is the holy grail of the PS3, I hope to see it soon.

Sony's hardware change: indicative of a price drop?

Feb 25th 2007 9:27AM (Joystiq Playstation)
To those of you optimistic about PS2 back compat, I refer you to the full press release

http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=291

and this quote:
“PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system,” said David Reeves, President of SCEE. “Games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games. Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.”

Some additional PS2 titles will become compatible on the PS3 system through regular downloadable firmware updates, which will be made available through the PLAYSTATION®Network, from www.playstation.com or via PS3 game discs, with the first update planned for the launch date of the 23rd March 2007.
