I think you misunderstood me. You are an example of the type of person I do NOT have issues with. You played the demo, and formulated your opinions based on what you saw. You didn't like it, but you can say that because you actually tried it. I'm not trying to convince anyone that it's good (though I do wish people would recognize that, from a technical standpoint, it's above average). Whether you like the content is subjective. I take issue with the people who develop shallow opinions based on hearsay or on an animated gif that was created for the sole purpose of trying to make the game look as terrible as possible, and with people who are bashing the game only because it's the "cool" thing to do right now.
And speaking of that animated gif, if you played the demo you'd know that it is not a graphical glitch, but an intentional effect (and in my opinion, one of the funnier parts of it as well).
I also never said that the game was good just because it was made by one person. I said it's a commendable achievement. Big difference there.
Yes, I do think the game feels professional. Of all the homebrew DS games I have played, this one is by far the most complex, and is also one of the most polished I have ever seen. Do any of you truly understand what is involved in making a video game? It can take a team of programmers and designers months, or even years, to create something even half-decent. This guy is doing it in his spare time by himself. That is an amazing achievement and he should be commended for it.
It's really easy to sit in front of your computer and whine and complain and say "OMG it lookz lik a dum GBA gam LOL!!!1!!". I'd like to see you create something even half as good as this. Put up or shut up.
Now that a demo has been released no one should be allowed to comment on the quality of this game until they've played it. Anyone who comments without playing it is just being an ignorant troll.
That being said, Bob scares me. He's intriuging, but also a bit disturbing. I don't think his antics, even if they are part of a "viral" ad campain, are going to help his cause.
THAT being said, I've played the demo, and it's not bad at all. It plays well and feels professional. I think it has a lot of promise. If nothing else, this guy knows what he's doing from a tech standpoint. I hope we see more.
The 2D-to-3D mechanics of this game remind me a lot of that PSP game Crush, especially with these new SPM images that show Mario crossing a large gap by shifting to 3D mode where a hidden path is available. It's interesting how this concept has never really been explored before, and now suddenly two games are making use of it. I think it's great. The industry needs fresh ideas.
