Mistwalker's Sakaguchi to discuss new project next Spring

Dec 21st 2009 1:05PM (Joystiq)
How time flies. Just 3 years back Mistwalker was supposed to be the one to dethrone Final Fantasy, and there was lots of gloating about how MS had bought out the FF killer. Now, xbox fans are gloating because just one of the three FF games is available in some regions on the 360, FF has sold more in 1 week in Japan than Mistwalker did over 3 years, the 360 is dead in Japan despite Mistwalker and all the other JRPGs bought with cold cash. Pity, really, because good game or not, Lost Odyssey would have sold 2 million more copies at least on the PS3 if they had not been so foolish

Science: Uncharted 2 is the best game of 2009

Couldnt agree with you more, LZ2 was just so tactical, basically if you dont se your teammates around you you are dead. And the way it is structured there is almost no camping, there is always a way around a choke point. Hated CoD:MW2, its all about reflexes and camping really

Atlas, it wasnt so much following the plot, it just seemed like they put together a bunch of pretty good action sequences and then decided how they would tie them together. Maybe I have been spoiled by how good Batman, Uncharted and Ratcet were at a coherent story.

"Why don't you play Search and Destroy?"
Thanks for your advice, will try out that mode again

Euro retailers point to Feb. 26 release for Heavy Rain

Its not hyped except among core gamers. Hardly any ads yet, and its getting a lot of attention because its new. And they deserve attention just for that, had enough of the umpteenth shooter or racing games. It may not sell 5 million, but then, even games like Mass Effect and Uncharted sold 2-2.5 million.

If this was Valve, they would release the same game with all they have added or plan to add as a full-priced game and call it LBP2

The Penny arcade cartoon is awesome and sums up MW2 quite nicely - someone who called this an "infantry combat simulator" must be out of their minds, this is as arcadey as any shooter I have played. And after the more tactical play of Killzone 2 mulitplayer, just cant get into CoD any more, you have no clue what you are doing in single player as the plot is non-existent, and every multiplayer game I have played (to be honest, not many) has a bunch of people running around with no teamwork or strategy, and every round is dominated by a few who have apparently been playing this around the clock since launch

Dark Void video succinctly summarizes the game in 90 seconds

The main rason I was interested in this was the jetpacks and the potential for a 3e peron shooter that includes the vertical aspect - but honestly seems like Uncharted 2 pulled this off better, this looks rather disappointing

Forza 3 sales surpass 1m units; premium DLC released

Dec 9th 2009 9:30AM (Joystiq)
I remember when PS3 games used to be mocked constantly for having inferior graphics and selling less. When Uncharted 2 and KZ2 came out alongside ODST and L4D2, suddenly xbox gamers "realised" that its gameplay, not graphics, that matter. Similalry, when GT5 comes out, you will see them come out stating that sales dont make any difference to the quality a game - which is perfectly true, just that its a bit different from what those same guys used to say in case of, say, LBP

"Gameplay and general ease of use"
In other words, a noobified half-arcade half-sim, its like calling CoD or Halo an infantry sim.
I personally dont like racing sims - which is why I stick to Burnout. But if I did want to buy a racing sim, I would want something on which the team has spent time and effort to replicate actual car physics and which looks and plays realistically.
There are 3 categories of racing games imho:
arcade: Burnout, Motorstorm
sim wannabe: NFS, Grid, Forza
The 3rd category has just 2 entries: real life, and GT. And GT looks better than real life :)
