The PS3 is a superior machine to both the Wii and 360. Everyone knows it. But I own a Wii and a 360, not the PS3.
Part of it is the PS3's price. Part of it is in general when a game is released on the 360 and PS3, it runs better on the 360.
With exclusives like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Demon's Souls (US release) coming out, the PS3 can move serious units with a price drop. Bundles won't cut it though.
Please drop the price already. Until then I'll keep collecting dust on my Wii and wishing Fable 2 wasn't such a disappointment.
This issue has been covered already. Pirates have absolutely NOTHING to do with the ongoing multiplayer problems Demigod is suffering from.
Pirates created a problem for people trying to play multiplayer *at release* because all copies of the game would automatically make an HTTP call to do an update check at the game's startup. If Demigod had massive sales opening day then the same problem would have occurred.
Pirated copies were never allowed to join multiplayer games, and so these ongoing multiplayer problems have nothing to do with pirates. But don't take my word for it, Stardock has covered this at length. Here's one link: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347467
I bought this game when it first came out. This is the most fun RTS game I have ever played. But I wish I never played it because then I wouldn't know what I'm missing when multiplayer refuses to work.
Multiplayer, up through yesterday including this latest patch, is unreliable at best for me too. I managed to complete just two games with other people during the time I have owned this game from release and it was a blast despite me getting stomped. Unfortunately every other multiplayer game I try I am either waiting to connect or a lag/freeze out midway through the game.
The 50% coupon would be great to get someone else to join and keep the game in a healthy state of competition *if multiplayer worked reliably*. It still doesn't and I have no confidence it will be fixed.
In conclusion, stay away from Demigod until the entire internet states multiplayer has been fixed. If you get a taste of how good this game is then it will just hurt that much more when you are staring at a waiting to connect screen.
Myth I was awesome. Never got higher than the small crown ranking. I still remember seeing the moon and the sun in the channels - I really liked the icons used to depict rankings. Tried Myth II but never liked it as much as Myth I.
I was going to pass on this download because RTS games with resource and army management are too much for my small brain, but your Myth reference prompted my download. :)
Do not play if you have to buy at full retail price. The game is continually bleeding players for good reason (not just WotLK, although WotLK does further expose how many problems WAR has).
I quit at level 30, enjoying the game up to about level 20. I had both a healer and a dps class, on two different servers - one Destruction, one Order. On Order, I was in the biggest guild (200+ members) on a launch server. When I quit a couple weeks ago, there were only 5 people from my guild on during prime time.
During level 20-25 on both characters, I hit a huge xp wall grind. Before release, Mythic decided to increase the amount of xp needed to level but did not increase the quest xp given out. This xp grind was created to slow down player advancement and subsequently contributed to people leaving the game. Mythic tried to address this problem, but like so many other attempted solutions to issues with this game, the minor xp boost did not solve xp wall grind.
The other contribution to players leaving this game is how buggy large scale sieges are. Despite being what this game is supposed to be about, sieges infrequently occur due in part to nobody playing and in part to nobody wanting to try to siege/defend since the sieges are buggy - everything from rewards to the game engine itself falls apart.
Further, I had to install a bunch of addons just to get the game playable, like one addon just to manage buff refresh rates which would lag my beast of a computer due to poor design decisions.
If you can find a copy for ~$10-20, I recommend a purchase because there are some nice ideas here.
But if you pay more than that, you are paying too much for what little enjoyment there is that will not extend past one month.
The first time I saw the "motion-sickness dot" while watching a Mirror's Edge clip, I thought there was something wrong with the LCD TV I was watching it on.
Tears began to flow as I came to terms with a dead pixel right in the middle of my TV.
Then I moved the browser window...I watched the pixel move...wait a second...that's no dead pixel...WOOOHOOO THANK YOU JESUS!!!
May I suggest Coloretto. Incredibly easy and fun card game for 2-5 players (for 2 players, follow the 3 player rules and also replace the 3 drawing rows of 3 cards each with 3 drawing rows of 1, 2, and 3 cards each). It also looks good, and is a short game to play.
As for a board game, may I suggest Cartagena. Again, it is easy and fun (like Candyland with small brains as opposed to no brains), looks good and is always less than 45 minutes to play with 2-5 players.
