Parallels makes switching to Mac easier than ever

Aug 25th 2009 11:03AM (TUAW.com)
Disclosure? I might be incorrect but I'm fairly sure that Parallels is either a current advertiser or past advertiser on this site.

Why can't they get their interface team to work with the hardware team? Why is Marketplace too large for the screen?

Carmack: Quake Live on Mac, Linux 'high on my priority list'

Feb 25th 2009 9:37PM (Joystiq)
Gaming for Macs has been "high on [his] priority list" for a few years now, just as Apple every few years promises a revitalised platform for games and the usual two big distributors (EA and another) put out 3 titles a year ...6 months after the Windows versions, then the field is once again left to small re-write houses who buy the rights to PC games and take their own sweet time in releasing titles months or years after they were available in Windows.

The day there's proper day and date release in line with Windows titles (Like how Blizzard does for World of Warcraft) then I'll believe gaming has actually become a "priority" for Carmack or Apple.

What is The Brick?

Software. The ability to run many Windows apps without the use of Wine/some emulator. Just a guess. Great that we have virtualisation and Boot Camp, but to run Windows apps on our systems without the need for either of the two previous more or less kills the entire need for a Windows install.

The value proposition of iPhone without phone calls

Feb 26th 2008 4:59PM (TUAW.com)
I got the iPhone on a trip to the US to bring back to Canada knowing full well I wouldn't be using it for cell service. The Touch doesn't have the camera (great for snapping photos of things I see / want to remind myself to do/get later), the microphone (voice memos are essential), the hardware volume buttons (double-tap the home button and look at the screen to adjust volume? no thanks), and (I think) no external speaker.

Trump the Chump

Thank you for being smart enough to not release or allow licensing of a cologne. That alone was more than enough to crush any credibility The Donald had in my mind.

The Movie Business Challenge

Jul 23rd 2006 11:59PM (Blog Maverick)
Have movies on opening weekend be an extremely cut rate (let's say a 'usual' price is $12/ticket, this cut price will be $1/ticket), nearly anyone will pay a dollar for a new movie (and also attract people to new movies they may not have exactly wanted to see otherwise). Word of mouth will quickly spread of venues with low prices for the newest movies- if all seats are sold out, then please come back next week when the price is doubled to two dollars. The price could double weekly (on Friday of course) until the fifth week where tickets could be "full" price for the movie in question- the same price all other venues were charging all along. I don't know if this helps, but hopefully it might (I've entered my email address in this form). It would create more goodwill and word of mouth, most likely, and maybe shift some eyeballs to more than just the "blockbuster" releases.
