If he used an iPad to get laid... she blew it.

The fate of a generation of workers: Foxconn undercover fully translated (update: videos added)

May 20th 2010 12:39AM (Engadget)
Here we go again, it's Monday at last,
He's heading for the Waterloo line,
To catch the 8 a.m. fast, its usually dead on time,
Hope it isn't late, got to be there by nine.
Pin stripe suit, clean shirt and tie,
Stops off at the corner shop, to buy The Times
'Good Morning Smithers-Jones'
'How's the wife and home?'
'Did you get the car you've been looking for?'

Let me get inside you, let me take control of you,
We could have some good times,
All this worry will get you down,
I'll give you a new meaning to life - I don't think so.

Sitting on the train, you're nearly there
You're part of the production line,
You're the same as him, you're like tin-sardines,
Get out of the pack, before they peel you back.

Arrive at the office, spot on time,
The clock on the wall hasn't yet struck nine,
'Good Morning Smithers Jones'
'The boss wants to see you alone'
'I hope its the promotion you've been looking for'

'Come in Smithers old boy'
'Take a seat, take the weight off your feet'
'I've some news to tell you'
'There's no longer a position for you' -
'Sorry Smithers Jones'.

Put on the kettle and make some tea
It's all a part of feeling groovie
Put on your slippers turn on the TV
It's all a part of feeling groovie
It's time to relax, now you've worked your arse off
But the only one smilin' is the sun tanned boss
Work and work and work and work till you die
There's plenty more fish in the sea to fry

Epic's Mike Capps: PC piracy 'changed our business model'

May 18th 2010 10:27PM (Joystiq)
I think they also left out the part where current gen (and even last gen) console popularity has effectively eaten into PC gaming sales, so you can't blame it all on piracy. In the past, consoles simply couldn't handle games like Unreal Tournament but now you have consoles that are easily as good as most people's PCs at running the latest games, and chances are if you have a console, you're going to want to actually use that console for its primary purpose (gaming) which means you're not going to buy the same game for the PC.

At least, that's the case with me where I'll be in an eternal quandary over whether to get a game for the PC (my usual preference) or for the 360 (which I feel almost obligated to buy games for because otherwise it's just a rather expensive and glorified DVD player and media extender). I'm almost glad when a game company decides to only release a game on either console or PC so I won't have to decide which iteration to purchase. Game review sites usually seem to prefer the PC versions of games except where a game was clearly ported in a half-assed manner to the PC rather than redesigned specifically for it. I think the only exception where I would prefer to get the console version might be the recent Ghostbusters game where they deliberately left out coop play from the PC version, which I think really sucks.

I suspect the decline in games development for PCs is not just piracy-related, but also due to the fact that it's just much easier and cheaper to develop and test for consoles because the hardware remains static within each generation, whereas with PCs you never know what hardware configuration the end user might be running and so you'd have to test your game on a wide variety of different hardware configurations (including discrete and integrated graphics cards, discrete and onboard sound cards, cpu types, OS versions, monitor resolutions, input hardware, etc.) and you're going to have a hell of bigger headache dealing with dissatisfied customers who are complaining that the game doesn't run properly on their computer. Never mind finding bugs, let alone trying to fix them all.

New iPhone in Vietnam spotted running iPhone OS 4? (update: it's a fake)

May 14th 2010 1:15AM (Engadget)
@Master of the Intangible

This is exactly how I felt about it and didn't understand Apple fanbois claiming it wasn't the next iPhone and then complaining that if it was, they hated the design. I much prefer this sleek, sophisticated look to the current gen iPhone design (didn't care for the chrome trim either, or the rounded back).

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 review

@sfox8

I personally find the Nexus One design not exactly ugly, but kind of boring and nondescript. I prefer the HTC Incredible/Supersonic myself.

Now if only these phones would come to Canada. *mutter*
