Joystiq Original Hip-hop: Welcome Back (To The Stage of History)

Feb 26th 2012 3:59AM (Joystiq)
I guess it's interesting when Joystiq staff show some personality.

Props for doing it, but I'm not gonna lie and say I enjoyed it.

I think the main problem is that you're rapping a 4/4 flow on a 3/4 beat, so it sounds stuttery (now a word).

But again, props for putting yourself out there and showing some personality. Always good to see the other side of the staff.

Jaffe walks through the Twisted Metal car customizer web app

Maybe it's just me, but he sounds totally burnt out and frustrated in this vid. I mean, outside of his general care-free, 'what-the-f*ck-ever' demeanor. It's like he's just going through the motions until his contract is up.

How many of these SF characters *aren't* from SF4? I coulda swore I remember the devs saying they wouldn't just recycle all the characters from SF4.

PS Vita game downloads cheaper than boxed copies in US

@Camel Carcass

While I find myself leaning heavily towards digital goods these days for the conveniences you mentioned, I'm still aware of their inherent and (depending on the person) drastic disadvantages. For one, the second you download that file, the item you purchased drops 100% in value. To some people (a large group of people, mind you), that's the ultimate deal-breaker. Also, the concept of having a digital item tied to an on-line account (pretty common), so if you happen to not have a connection, or access to your digital game, you're shit out of luck.

These are just two examples of the sacrifices we pay for the convenience of a digital good. So it's short-sighted, and rather ignorant, to call proponents of physical goods "idiots".

OnLive's mobile app hits and misses (with launch compatibility list)

So, to play this comfortably on a smartphone/tablet with a wireless controller, where exactly would you be placing your device, in a stand or something? That would seem rather cumbersome. It's not like you can just lay up in your bed and play this, or even on the toilet (the secret mecca of portable gaming) and use a controller and hold your mobile device simultaneously. I think this is where a video would've come into play, 'cuz currently I don't see how this would be very practical.

Not being an ass, I'm just genuinely curious about this aspect.

How to fix Final Fantasy

While this was mildly entertaining (I'll stick with "entertaining" over calling it "funny"), I kinda would've enjoyed an in-depth look into how FF has evolved over the years and how it can reclaim its place as a top-tier franchise (critically, at least). Oh well.

Epic wants Unreal Engine 4 ready for the next-gen console launch

@jiggypoo

The 360 came out in 2005, man. I'm not saying I'm personally ready for a new generation, but this generation has (thankfully) far outlasted most others already.

Our Battlefield 3 review: Why we're splitting it up, and why console's coming late

Oct 21st 2011 8:29PM (Joystiq)
@Shadowbender

Sure, Joystiq is to be commended for being upfront about their intentions, but am I the only one who feels that they should review what's on the disc, and not wait for an "Ok, the game is now actually playable" patch?

I think reviewers have an obligation to review the product that the consumers will be purchasing, which at this point is whatever comes on the disc/in the box. At the very least, an editor's note should be added to highlight the differences pre/post patch.

Sony: Vita will 'supersede' mobile gaming with PlayStation Suite

Unless the Vita magically becomes a phone, I think Sony's gonna have an uphill battle breaking into the iOS/Android market.
