Interview: Spoiling Heavy Rain with David Cage

Mar 19th 2010 6:21PM (Joystiq)
The reaction you are having is very common in the entertainment industry today. People want to think that just because something is complicated that it's good, they want to think that's there's no value in being entertained if you're not given half-assed red herrings and think the only way to write a good story is if you make a "mystery" with no actual clues that someone could use to solve it. This is why so many people become frustrated with Lost, for example, because it's a garbage show with garbage characters whose only saving grace, it's sense of mystique, has been continually eroded over the past few seasons by the gradual realization of what's going on behind the scenes (exactly what happened with Heavy Rain): people making shit up as they go along, pulling everything out of their ass, and not caring if there's a coherent story out there.

Interview: Spoiling Heavy Rain with David Cage

That's not actually what a MacGuffin is, David Cage. A MacGuffin is the central driving force behind a story (usually a crime story) that has no relevance beyond it being the driving force. Hitchcock says, for example, a necklace that two thieves are trying to steal. It doesn't HAVE to be a necklace. It could be a suitcase of thousand dollar bills, or a clutch of diamonds and the story wouldn't change. That's what a MacGuffin is.

In reference to the origami figures, when he said "MacGuffin" I think he meant to say "shitty writing."

I was pretty much nice.

Officers' Quarters: Patch 3.3 -- An officer's perspective

Nov 9th 2009 3:00PM (WoW)
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about Anub being the show-stopper. There are all of
three trash pulls before him. If anything, Sarth is going to be the
worst slog. And even then not so bad. As we were doing it last night, I noticed it took us six minutes from the first pull to starting the last. So even that won't be too bad.

As for Icerown... I could give it a little more time. We've got three hard modes left in Uld that I'd really like to finish up, and I guess there's Heroic ToC, but I don't like that very much. I could stand another two months before 3.3.

The Light and How to Swing It: A little less hybrid

What are you talking about? There is no "offensive" spellpower anymore for any class, unless you mean that Boomkins can't cast heals in boomkin form. There hasn't been offensive/healing spellpower since Burning Crusade.

This is NOT a nerf to bears. If anything, bears are the ones that come out of this looking the best. Better health totals and higher mitigation on bears (not as good as it used to be, but still stronger than warriors/paladins) combined with smaller boss hits will lead to bears continuing to do what they do best: soak damage. They'll likely be much better off comparatively to warriors and paladins, who can only stack block to a certain degree, and only then at the expense of most other stats.

The Queue: Roasting a pig on a MacBook Pro

Be extremely careful with that 2006 Macbook. If it's the model I'm thinking of, it's bad news. Specifically: don't keep it on your lap. A friend of my girlfriend had one from around that time and developed this bizarre skin condition from it. The name eludes me, but it's something about being exposed to high heat for long periods of time. Apparently it was most common in blacksmiths. Anecdotally, this is a somewhat common problem (according to the internet, so...)

But yeah, regardless of any severe skin diseases, Macbooks from around that time are dangerous. Someone else I knew left theirs in stand-by and put it back in its original box. Some time later, he took it out and discovered the laptop had melted the styrofoam around itself.

BlizzCon 2009: The Future of Tanking

I disagree. Look at your shield next time. It's contributing about 30% of your armor. BV might be a little milquetoast, but the armor your shield gives certainly is not.

Also, if you'll forgive my hyperbole: I get a little ill every time I read a wow.com writer talking about using DPS pieces to tank. Sacrificing .5% - 1% of avoidance, extra defense buffer, block value, and lord knows what other stats to wear a dps chest? No thanks. Have you SEEN how hard Ulduar bosses hit? Maybe that kind of stuff can fly in heroics or Naxx, but I wouldn't step up against anything in Uld in that kind of gear.
