Joyswag: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition codes

I thought I was being original when I thought of this reply, but clearly that is not the case. Still, I will proclaim that as the Witcher I will kill witches.

'Action Double Feature' Is Everything We Want In Digital Comics [Review]

Apr 7th 2011 12:23PM (ComicsAlliance)
Definitely a lot of cool ideas in this app. I love the price point, the bonus features, and the idea of it.

After purchasing it, I had two immediate "oh god please fix this" gripes. One, the item descriptions in the store do not contain a clear statement of the creators involved in the issue for sale. No "Writer: X, Pencils: Y, Colors: Z" or something similar (I think maybe it said "Norton, Seeley" somewhere? Since I've already purchased it, I can't see the description again). It would be helpful to have that info clearly stated when you're looking to make a purchase.

Two, I get what they were going for with the animated page turns, but boy do I hate that... It's kinda cute once, but I'd really like to just get to the next page, and having to drag all the way across the screen is annoying. It may seem like a silly complaint, but the annoyance adds up after 30 pages.

But both of those gripes should be super easy to fix (just a few extra lines on the item descriptions, and make the page dragging optional). I look forward to seeing how this develops.

Cameron Stewart & Karl Kerschl Fuse Their Art into a Hybrid Style in 'Assassin's Creed: The Fall'

Mar 3rd 2011 10:59AM (ComicsAlliance)
I read this miniseries as it was coming out, and I really enjoyed the art. Stewart and Kerschl really complimented each other, however it was divided. As a fan of the videogame series, the story here is largely non-essential with the major exception of its ending. Having finished Assassins Creed: Brotherhood about a week before I read the last issue of the miniseries, the conclusion to this story really perfectly complimented the end of Brotherhood, and gave me a new perspective on the end of that game and the future of the series. I'd love to see Stewart and Kerschl team up for a new creator owned property at some point.

'Minor' PSP firmware update coming soon

"(Rumor has it that if you hold the PSP vertically and hold in the R button while shaking it violently, Skittles pour out of the UMD slot.)"

Yet another reason not to own a PSP Go.

Police Seize the Firearms of Heavy Ink President After Reading ComicsAlliance Story

Jan 18th 2011 9:42PM (ComicsAlliance)
Am I alone in starting to feel bad for this guy at this point? What he said was stupid, and his subsequent defense of it was reprehensible. But I think his lack of empathy is likely the reaction of a sad, lonely person who doesn't understand the damage his words did, a situation which will not be improved by these developments. After being an object of public scorn for weeks now, and likely taking a serious hit to his business on top of that, pointing and laughing as police begin to investigate him and take his stuff just makes me feel sad for him. This guy was wrong, this guy was hurtful, this guy may even deserve what's happening to him. But I'm concerned that he's not going to learn anything from this other than, at best, that he should keep his mouth shut more often. I really hope he has some friends who will tell him that he was an asshole, but who will also still be his friends and take the time to help him learn from this and understand other people a little better.

[I will concede that I may be feeling overly empathetic after an extremely long day of work that concluded with me clicking on the link to his little woodworking gallery, which for some reason just made me feel super sad for him, because really, who makes birdhouses without being in 7th grade woodshop class?]

Digital December: Mark Waid Goes Deep on Digital and the Future of Comics

Dec 24th 2010 9:59AM (ComicsAlliance)
I've had this sitting in my browser waiting to be read for a few days now, and I'm glad I finally got to it. Great interview, and I love that Mark Waid is able to speak his mind and be an independent thinker without being a dick. You can "tell it like it is" without trashing people and understanding that reasonable people may disagree with some of your views. Hooray for intelligent, reasoned debate.

New 'Doctor Who' Videogames Headed to Nintendo Wii and DS... But Not the US Yet

Aug 26th 2010 8:18AM (ComicsAlliance)
The first two chapters of the game are available for $5 in the US via Direct2Drive. I bought them this weekend and was disappointed by what I played so far (to be fair, only about 30 minutes worth). I thought I was getting an old school point and click adventure game, but it's more just a really basic action game. At $5 I don't feel too let down, but if the DS and Wii versions are $30-50, I'd say stay away.

Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry Team Up for 'Thor' in September

Jun 7th 2010 6:01PM (ComicsAlliance)
Was JRJR ever supposed to draw this book? I'd only ever heard Fraction and Ferry as the team, and the article linked to her only says that Romita would do the FCBD issue and only mentions Fraction as continuing on Thor after that (and the Marvel.com news release that's linked to is even clearer that it was only Fraction who would be on Thor for more than the one FCBD issue--"Matt Fraction joins THOR as new writer and teams with John Romita Jr. for FCBD special"). Whatever has caused the delay of Fraction and Ferry starting on this book, I don't think it had anything to do with Romita. In any event, I am excited to check out this book--I've never regularly followed Thor (really I've only read a handful of issues of it in my life), but I like Fraction enough to give it a shot.

Have an iPad reservation? Your "pick up" email has arrived

Whew, looks like everyone is experiencing this, along with some other minor weirdness in these emails: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=886455

Have an iPad reservation? Your "pick up" email has arrived

Mar 31st 2010 11:25AM (TUAW.com)
I received my pickup email, but was mildly concerned to see that when I clicked on the "Edit Your Reservation" link, I was listed as having no reservations. Have other people experienced this as well? Given that they sent me the email, I assume my reservation is still good, but it would be nice to know if others have seen the same thing.
