Microsoft confirms Hulu Plus on Xbox 360 for tomorrow, free for all until May 6

Apr 28th 2011 2:08PM (Joystiq)
I’ve had the Hulu Plus service for almost 5 months now on my Roku box. At $8 bucks a month it really complements the Netflix streaming service. It in no way competes or replaces it. It’s nice to have current shows (and all of their previous seasons) in HD with very little ads. Regular Hulu only allows access the most recent episodes. You also have access to older shows that are very hard to find elsewhere (like American Gothic or Night Gallery). There is some crossover with Netflix (like current episodes of SNL).

In the end, the $8 a month, plus whatever you pay for Netflix is really worth it if you wanna cut the cable TV cord.

Dutch retailer boycotts sale of PSP Go

Sep 16th 2009 11:13AM (Joystiq)
I have worked in game retail for many years, and let me tell you that some of you are correct. Mostly game hardware is sold at a loss. The video game business (at least consoles) are a razor and razor blades business model. The console manufacturer (most times) makes and sells the system at a loss, and makes it up on licensing fees from publishers. The game retailer goes along and sells the console at whatever the wholesale cost is, and makes no profit and ( sometimes after shipping loses money). The retailer does this in order to move games. A $60 game usually has a profit margin of $7 to $10 for the retailer. Its possible the PSPGo might have a retailer profit margin as it is obviously manufactured with a good profit (costs alot less to make than to sell). The only other reason I would see a retailer would sell the PSPGo would be to retain a good relationship with Sony. Sony has played hardball with retailers in the past if they didnt bend to their demands. Does anyone remember when PS2s were scare and Sony tried to scare retailers into not taking pre-orders for the 1st XBOX?

That PSP in the Gameboy shell is pretty slick! Can I pre-order that at GameStop?
