Sony moves a step closer to junk; outlook "negative"

Oct 11th 2006 11:50AM (Joystiq)
Hey Ninja,

Maybe you should take some economic courses. Just because the stock price is higher doesn't mean its worth more.

For example Microsoft's stock could have been $50 yesterday but had a 2-1 stock split. There is now twice as many shares and the price is only $25 a share.

If that happened Does that mean that overnight Microsoft became worth less then Sony? Of course not.

Thus just looking at a stock price means nothing.

Now go take some finance and econ courses.

Michigan game law ruled unconstitutional

Apr 4th 2006 1:43AM (Joystiq)
I don’t think this is the place to get into Michigan Politics, though I would love to do it. I will just say that I have to disagree with you pretty much in entirety Zero corpse. While Granholm may have seen a few lobbyists from family groups, that doesn’t excuse her from making boneheaded decisions. What you’re saying is that because no pro gaming lobbyist talked to her she had to vote for it. It is your job as holding a political office to make informed decisions, informed meaning knowing both sides of an issue and making the best decision form that information. She has an entire staff division to research public policy. She knew as pretty much all the other governors it would be ruled unconstitutional. It was just a move to raise her approval rating and have a pro family policy to point to for the re-election, which is not looking good for her...I wonder why she just approved a huge increase in the minimum wage to come into effect just before elections....

The real "HD-Era" begins Feb. 17th, 2009

Feb 16th 2006 3:40AM (Joystiq)
If I remember correctly this date has been pushed backed twice now. When digital ready televisions first hit the market early 2006 was the first date the congressional committee set to end analog broadcasts. When 2006 started to come into view and digital ready televisions hadn't become the standard in viewers’ homes, they moved it back to the end of 2007. And again not enough people own HD televisions for the politicians to turn off analog broadcasts. If at least 50% of all televisions in homes aren’t digital ready expect this date to move back again. Make no mistake the government and businesses would love for the transition to happen today, as the end of analog broadcasts would open extremely valuable airwaves for new uses. Politicians though will continue to push it back until digital ready televisions are the standard in homes, as they fear the outcry and anger of voters who no longer have any television to watch. No television=More free time for angry voters=Lots of nasty letters and no reelection.
(Also there is talk that the government will have to subsidize all or some of the price for converter boxes (boxes which will make analog only televisions able to view digital broadcasts), an expense the government isn’t too excited to pay for.)
