The 'bullshot' dates back to Alone in the Dark

Mar 12th 2012 12:50PM (Joystiq)
Guys you are going to have to go back quite a bit more. Some of the first bullshots would undoubtedly be from the early Atari 2600 game cartridges. Back in the day they didn't have the ability to do screenshots for publication so many of the screens in magazines and even on the boxes were not true representations of the game but were artist renderings of the screens themselves.

There were plenty of times where you would put in a cartridge and it looked very little like the screenshots on the back. It was even worse during the Intellivision era, especially from titles from imagic. They made great games but some of the screenshots were total bullshi, er I mean bullshot.

EA adds CD Projekt RED, Paradox, and nine other publishers to Origin

@Mmmmz Really the only thing wrong with Origin is that, do you even realize what that name represents in PC gaming?

To take it and drag it through the mud even further infuriates me, go look up Richard Garriot, Ultima, and Origin. And you'll see why some of us older gamers will NEVER use that particular service to buy games.

@Ender7 exactly, I don't like being told where I can buy things from. I want the internet to be exactly like brick and mortar in the fact that things are allowed to be sold wherever people go to buy them.

Origin which only reminds me how badly EA screwed that particular development house, just makes me so mad when they pull this exclusivity shit.

Idiots.

You might have just as well said, EA banishes a dozen more publishers to a dank pit and promises to maybe toss food to them some time in the near future.

Mass Effect 3 isn't launching on Steam, requires Origin

Jan 19th 2012 12:04PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified) Right, we are demonizing BECAUSE they are singling out Steam whenever they come out with a new product like this. I for one will not have it. PC Games should not be locked down to any one service I would feel the same way if a game was only available on Steam.

This is BS and the truth needs to come out as to why this is happening. When it does both sides blame the other. I want the truth so I can see who is lying, but I'm pretty sure it's not Valve as they have dealt honestly with gamers for far longer vs. the last time EA was caught lying etc.

Fing EA, don't you get it. We don't want to use your system. Steam already exists stop trying to rebuild something that already exists and works. I'll buy the game on my XBOX to finish it and screw your store.

It's bad enough you guys ruined Origin (the gaming developer), now you rub it in our noses buy naming a lame ass store after them. You guys really should have done some market research with gamers because I would have told you that was the stupidest decision you could ever make.

Next thing you'll be making some new kiddy cartoon with space ships and name it Wing Commander.

Dumbasses.

Garriott talking with EA about Ultima Online 2 [update: apparently not]

Dec 14th 2011 3:44PM (Joystiq)
@commonperson Something? Dude, your obviously too young to remember what video games, and RPG's in particular were like Prior to things like, Bioshock, Wing Commander, etc. The man built one of the greatest video game companies in the industry and could have gone the way of Blizzard entertainment if he hadn't sold out to EA. EA is the true evil here.

I am saddened he's even talking to these jerks. They took his company, along with some of the greatest franchises in gaming history and dragged them through the mud.

He should just get the rights back to his franchises if possible and build a new team to bring them back. But that's never going to happen. EA is full of Suits now, and they will never do Ultima justice. I to agree that after ultima 8 the series went down hill, and the horrid mismanagement took the first true MMO and left a sour taste in the mouth of any true Ultima fan.

World of Warcraft is what Ultima Online should have become, but they stuck to the isometric top down view way too damned long and now it's just a joke.

But Richard Garriot is a pioneer in the video gaming industry, just as Blizzard and others are. Show some respect next time you speak his name, he's one of the reasons that true story telling exists in video games today.

36 Origin PC games on the cheap until Sunday

Jul 30th 2011 2:30PM (Joystiq)
If EA isn't willing to work with Valve and make the effort to keep material on both stores, then I'll just pass and let them wallow in their ineptitude. I have no intention of being forced to go to many different stores because things are not available in one or the other. Just like the real world there is no competition if something is only available at one retailer. I hate the modern sales technique of exclusives and timed sales/exclusives etc. It sucks, just sell me the damned item on the day I want it or be prepared for me to have already forgotten about it by the time you get around to making it available where I want it. The only thing that's going to happen then is I won't buy it until 3 years later when Steam has a clearance sale because you were too stupid to realize the limited availability means you have limited intelligence.

Apple Store 2.0 launches with interactive iPads

May 22nd 2011 2:48PM (TUAW.com)
oh I don't know, maybe because the macbook doesn't allow touch interactivity? How could you be reader of this site and wonder why an iPad would be used in this fashion?

If someone is looking for information about a macbook maybe they are new to computers and don't even know how to start using a macbook (trust me, people like that still exist) so an iPad app is worlds easier if setup properly. Everybody knows how to touch something without even having to ask someone.

inFamous 2's opening cinematic brings us up to speed

May 14th 2011 12:33PM (Joystiq)
@GOS458 yeah, remember you said that the first time you hear this new guy. He may be a fine VA but the fact is, that's NOT COLE!!!!!!

Why bother making a sequel if your going to replace the only non computer generated thing about the character.

Especially since i'm pretty sure they could have easily kept the original Voice Actor if some SUIT at sony hadn't said. "We can get more kids if we make Cole more HIP and YOUNG looking and SOUNDING!!!!". Morons.
