Analyst expects PS3 price cut of $100 this October

Mar 20th 2007 2:42PM (Joystiq)
It doesn't matter if they drop the price. Both MS and Nintendo are waiting for it. The reason why MS hasn't dropped the price is because they don't want any price cut by the Sony to go unanswered. If they dropped the price now (say, by $100) they would have no room to answer a Sony price drop. Is this good buisiness? I don't think so. They have too many systems on the shelves right now, and that stagnant investment can't be good for the bottom line.

With regards to the addition of rumble to the PS3, don't count on it being adopted by the games for the sole fact that, if half the people don't have it, they won't build it into the game.

Bizarre wanted Geometry Wars to be free

Mar 14th 2007 5:06PM (Joystiq Xbox)
At $5 this game became the staple download, the game that showed off x-box live arcade. With the volume that this game has sold, I am suprised that other companies don't share in the "$5" model, with rediculously high volumes.

This game was the true star last year, unfortunatly it was not considered in the rankings for the games that sold the most, as it was digitaly distributed. Does anyone have quantities for Geometry Wars?

Behold: the Playstation 3.5

Jan 2nd 2007 2:07PM (Joystiq Playstation)
If they make it white and out of plastic and have an hour glass shape and have a green X in the middle then it will look like the other media center that I have in my living room.

Oh wait, they would also have to charge only $400 for it to compete with the X-Box 360 and its media center extender capabilities.

I'll stick with my media center and my two wired X-Boxes beaming beautiful PVR to my HD-TVs.

And yes, I know much is in standard-def, but with the advent of Vista, the crippled Cable-Card, and the "secure" computer (Hate cable-labs, not microsoft for this), I will have HD-PVR.

Is the Xbox 360's high attach rate bad?

Nov 21st 2006 1:56PM (Joystiq)
Problematically they don't take into consideration that nearly all of the hi-def games sold have been on the 360. Had there been other consoles out there, and users had other places to spend their money, the 360 would have had a lower attach rate.

Note that the 360 has yet to experience a price drop, something that normally dramatically increases sales to the non l33t. Wait for the 65 nm, the hard drive increase and the price drop in the spring. Then we will see the low attach rates skyrocket as people buy the system to download movies, and not games.

Also not taken into account is what an "attach" is. Is it an arcade game? Is it a new skin? Attached products have a much wider degree of price range than the previous generation.
