Nice to know I pointed out a mistake in my 4th comment...

DS lite: Cardboard edition

Interesting.

There's a shortage of DS 'Lites' in Japan?

Huh, must have not have noticed that fact that Nintendo only just announced it...

Killing your boss in 5 easy steps

Feb 16th 2006 3:18PM (Joystiq)
Ah, I love boss fights. I don't care how free-roaming a game is, throw some boss fights in somewhere, for old times sake. Huge monsters with huge teeth, bosses with rancid poison breath... And there's the whole classical theme of the elemental bosses. The giant fish that tries to swallow you, the plant that has hundreds of minions and massive thorns, the fire induced lava/rock creation...

The one game that throws up the most memorable bosses for me is Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. The bosses in that game were pure legendary, throwing up some of the strangest creations ever. Each one was a work of art. The huge ant that would turn you to stone, the wind breather that would suck you in and the final boss. Wow, the boss to end all bosses. In the sky as well! And it had an ingenious way of battling it…

Bosses to me are what will often turn out to be the most memorable parts of the game. Unless you count Halo 2, the most fun is had of slapping n00bs about...Not that silly end boss.

Far Cry H2O -- that's purdy water

Feb 16th 2006 3:09PM (Joystiq)
You know what? Pretty graphics.

All I want to know about the new Far Cry is: Have they improved upon the already freaking-awesome map maker? If they have, I will buy the game simply for that. I could spend days on that map maker. I did, in fact.

Film studios cut back on UMD titles

Heh, this was definetly not a suprise, you're right. Same thing happened with nintendo in a way, with the gamecube. It was a [partial contributor to the reason behind the lack of third-party titles. Hard to convert, lack of sales, people don't like to produce ofr them. Simple, really.

Anyway, HD-DVD all the way anyway. Sod off Sony-supported Blue-Ray, never liked blue anyway.

Multi-touching is good

Feb 16th 2006 2:41PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, but you have to consider this as the technology of the future. It costs thousands now, but in the future... It's a bit like working silicon on a sub-particle level. Massively expensive to research, doesn't work yet, but once it does...The limits are endless due to Quantum laws.

I loved the lava lamp one, which made me smile like a maniac. The whole "clay-movement" idea really intrigues me. I loved that free 'cloud' game that was featured on Joystiq once.

What this says to me is the possible inclusion of touch analogs. Analogs are hard to put on handhelds due to protrusion, like the PSP. With touch analogs, it'd be easier. First person shooters would actually be good on a handheld with one of these.
