I own both the DS and the PSP. I have no problem with either console, as each fills a niche as far as gaming needs go (for me).
What I like about the DS is that it has an interesting mix of games, both pick-up-and-play and serious long ones. Also, the DS with the M3 Movie Player, a Passcard, a 2GB MiniSD card and some creative searching and downloading from the net allows me to get all the games available for it (and even international games) for free.
THe PSP, on the other hand is a homebrew king. I have Dark Alex's infamous 3.02 Firmware and use my PSP primarily to Play SNES games that I did not have the chance to play the first time around, and now with Popstation, I can Play Parasite Eve, Breath of Fire III and other games that I could not enjoy or finish on the original Playstation. And, as a bonus, there are some (not a lot mind you) PSP games that are worth it.
So, to conclude,
DS: Commercial Games PSP: Homebrew, and some Commercial Games.
Come on people, let's be a little bit videogame agnostic here, after all if you miss a great game because it is not in "your console" the one that loses out in fun is you.
I got myself a Sony DSLR-A100. 10 Megapixels of fun! and, it fits all my old Minolta Lens! I also got myself a PSP, 1.5 Firmware that I immediately upgraded to that Hacky firmware to play my collection of PSX games (after some hacking of course) and I finally received as a gift, a coffee maker. Oh well, I will not be tired when I am playing Einhander or Chrono Cross at 3am!
Sorry about that, I used Grenada as an example of how old some of the gear I used while in.
As far as increasing the number of men and women serving, I could see that as a viable alternative, but in reality, it is hard to even maintain the current number of troops. The choice to join any of the Armed Forces is a very unpopular one. Even in peace time. Also, why increase the number of troops? to maintain this country's jingoistic posture in the world? No. The average citizen rarely sees or experiences anything like some of us have seen due to our xenophobia and bullying.
For those of you that are all about our might and wars, talk to me when you see one of your best friends die in front of you.
You are absolutely right. Many times I had to live in conditions your average American would be complaining about, or had gear that was already in service when the Grenada Situation happened. We definitely need more money to be spent on us, the poor grunts and not in overpriced-near-useless weapons systems that probably weight a ton and could malfunction while you are engaging the enemy. No thanks. Give my my trusty M16A2 and K-Bar and I am set.
Why Sony, why? There was a time I would have defended you from Mac fanboys by touting your VAIO line (I used to love the TR series laptops) and even bought a VAIO over a Powerbook (bought the V505 laptop for $1,600+) then, you started to kill the product lines, I could not get any support for my UX50 Clie or my Laptop, and now my pretty decent VAIO sits there, booting Ubuntu instead of XP and I now own an iBook... This is too much, I am sorry Sony, it is me, not you, please do not call me again, remember I love you as I still own many of your TVs, the first Minidisc player you put out and my car stereo and changer are all Sony.
One of the things that I miss the most about Japan are those ubitquitous machines. Want something to drink? Just drive down the road, you will find out a machine somewhere, no matter if the road looks deserted and a terrible place to put a machine. That sort of vending would never make it in the US, namely due by our hooligan-like attitude about things (hey, if I can steal it/burn it/vandalize it, then it was meant to be done. Oh well.
(I love dydo's "American Coffee" a monstrous can for ¥100-¥150)
Wow, I grew up watching this anime. It is an amazing trip back to a mid 80's Colombia and a poor third-world child's imagination.... I want one, only to wax melancholic about my always hungry days and how I immersed myself into this show and others to escape my living situation..... oh memories.
Well, I downloaded it, just out of curiosity on his process. Looks good. I am still hanging on for that dual boot capacity, until then I will have to lug my VAIO and my iBook for play and work respectively.
Reasons to own a PSP, and there's 60 of 'em
