DS Daily: Legend of Zelda: Item of Great Importance

May 14th 2007 1:27PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Well I'll stand up for 3D. I loved 2D back in the day (Lttp, Link's Awakening) and thought I'd love Minish Cap when I recently bought it. But to be honest, after the 3D titles, I thought Minish Cap was a boring game completely devoid of atmosphere. And now I'm frightened to go back and play other 2D Zeldas for fear they'll be tainted too.

Lowenstein's 'final' interview: Game reviews influence industry

Well here comes a vote for the pompous: if we as a community don't try and understand the meaning of video games - and all games have meaning, whether we like to believe it or not - then other people will find that meaning for us. And you better believe it, it won't be the meaning you like.

DS Daily: The democratic process

I think you got it right. It is a small issue. Video game content is pretty much protected in the US by the First Amendment, and if it is getting attacked for being too violent (or whatever) then people have a right to attack it. On this simple issue, I'm sick of people thinking that just because they have the right to the most violent content that makes that good...

... but more importantly, it is a small issue. The right to invade other countries on the whim of the president is a bit bigger, and something worth fighting for / against (depending on your perspective).

I might be a fanboy joujou, but if you don't like the DS then you just don't like gaming.

Wii outsells both 360 and PS3 in January despite shortages

Car analogies don't, however, hold up for the console industry. Basically, it doesn't make a single bit of difference if someone else buys the same car as you... except maybe that model can be made more cheaply. However, the more people who buy the same console as you, the more likely developers are to make games for that console, and hence the better that console will be in the long run (cue fanboys). Accordingly, sales numbers in this industry are crucial.

Japanese man kills for arcade money

... Hate to post utterly tangential to the topic, but I just clicked on the Colours prison sex link and had a flash back to the glory days... Ahh... does everyone remember when the Sony Defence Force and Wiifanboys used to slug it out to the amusement of all? Good times, good times. But where have all the PS3 fanboys gone? Joystiq is a poorer place for the lack of Darryls, Pedros (an earlier incarnation, probably not posting in this thread) and Christopher7xiis... Oh well, progress I suppose.
