Sirtet puts a new twist on Tetris - Time-Waster

I haven't played it (still at work), but what keeps you from just filing each color into its own column? I mean, if every drop is 1x1 square, where's the challenge?

How the hell does this work? I mean, that's awesome, but... wow.

7 addons and two tweaks for annoyance-free browsing with Firefox

One huge thing that Session Manager adds that you can't (I think?) get out of baseline FF3 is Undo Close Window. They keep a history of closed tabs, sure, and you can even CTRL-SHIFT-T to undo last close, but if you close a whole window, you're sunk. It's a little too easy, IMHO, to accidentally hit SHIFT when you use CTRL-W to close a tab (CTRL-SHIFT-W closes the whole window), and Session Manager has saved my bacon more than once.

Also: thanks for the heads up on TextAreaCache -- I think my wife will also love that. For some reason, her FF still crashes sometimes (pretty much never a problem for me... hrm...)

Google quietly deals with YouTube audio copyright violations

Jan 15th 2009 11:12AM (Download Squad)
I know a couple of people who would be like "Oh, there's this song I wanted you to hear" and instead of going to Amazon or iTunes to buy it or even just play a sample/demo, they'd just search YouTube and get like a dozen hits. I was surprised to discover that, and I guess Google is just now realizing the same thing.

Still, I think they should wait until the copyright holder of at least the individual song registers as "don't let people use this" -- which might be what they do already, I guess.

DivX 7 adds support for HD H.264 videos

That's pretty great news about the DivX Plus program -- now when can I expect my Xbox 360 / PS3 to step up and get a (virtual, firmware-upgrade-based) sticker?

iDeaS Nintendo DS emulator updated, works well

I never really got the point of PC emulators of handheld systems. If I could do the reverse -- emulate non-portable consoles on a handheld -- I'd be all over that, but the best I can manage on that front is SNES games on my PSP. Don't get me wrong, that's awesome, but my original point stands: why would I want to play e.g. Phantom Hourglass on my PC when I could be playing Twilight Princess (or OOT) on the console that sits next to it?

Copy and paste comes to the iPhone, unofficially

Jan 8th 2009 12:36PM (Download Squad)
Opera 9.5 for WinMo supports drag-to-scroll, and the way they do it is a context-menu item to switch between "drag mode" and "select mode". I'm sure they could come up with a multi-touch command for the iPhone, but I think a mode toggle makes the most sense.

Loops of Zen proves harmony can be frustrating - Time Waster

Reminds me of Slitherlink - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slitherlink

I get the feeling that both of these would probably make you want to harm yourself or someone else.
