Is the PS3 above the average consumer's 'price ceiling'?
Sep 11th 2007 8:50PM (Joystiq)The thing is right now, both Nintendo and M$ are pretty successful based on the content that they're distributing to their fans. Sony is a little slow out of the gate with their content, not to mention that Sony has gotten a pretty bad rep since the PS3/Blu-Ray fiasco began. Now I'm not defending Sony, but let's admit it, it's not even a year into the PS3's life-cycle and as I remember the 360 got a pretty bad rep for many of the same things. Not to mention M$ is still getting heat(as they should) for something they should've taken care of a long time ago...that being the 360's terrible, unreliable hardware. The Wii is doing many things right and many things wrong at the same time yet because of how they're marketing it, it's still successful. I refuse to believe that price is the issue this time, though I'm very guilty of saying so myself before the last 2 of the new gen systems became available. Let's be honest, if the Wii cost $300 it still would be selling at about the same rate. A lot of people didn't like the fact of a $400 360 in 2005, but as more content became available, more people flocked to it. Sony's in the same boat. Instead of worrying about a new $400 PS3 or a $600 PS3, Sony should really be focusing on providing more content. Bringing easier developmental tools to 3rd parties so they can make better games should be a top priority as well. Price is not the issue and never was.
Black College Football Experience coming in November
Sep 6th 2007 11:30PM (Joystiq)I wasn't even talking solely about just Ivy League school you racist bastard. There are colleges all across this country that have for the most part an 85% White student body. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as they don't discriminate against other minorities that may want to attend...and many of them do. Watch the news or read a paper sometime, instead of reading/watching White Power-Nazi publications. Fucking idiot!
"You're naming nationalities, not races. If a game was set in Liberia and called "Liberian {any sport they like to play there}", then no one would complain. Heck, if it was set in Africa and called "African Football", no one would complain."
There's a big difference between a race and a nationality...but it's not like you really knew that. Humans, Tigers, Wolve's, and sheep are races of species. White's, Blacks, Italian's, British, and Russian or indeed nationalities. Even though Blacks are of American culture, we have a sub-nationality because we aren't exactly the same as Whites are. But again, I'm sure you knew that.
"Here's the main key: if this game was called "White Football", you can bet there would be an absolute shitstorm. Which means "Black Football" is off-limits too."
If your main gripe is based on just one word of the game, than you're dumber than everyone says you are. If I wanted to complain about Grand Theft Auto showcasing a Black character as a violent, gangsta/thug, carjacking, foul-mouthed guy by the name of Carl Johnson than I'd have a good case to bring to the courts about stereotyping...but I'm not simple like that and I realize that it's just a game. Also, a point I made earlier: Most of the games of the action/adventure/rpg genre depict mostly White/Asian characters as the protagonists without a Black character in sight many times, and that game is often worded differently. If the word Black just scares the hell out of you, that's your fear complex buddy, not mine. The phrase White power means nothing to me, I know who I am, so you could put White on anything you see fit...won't really change nothing.
Black College Football Experience coming in November
Sep 6th 2007 10:51PM (Joystiq)I'll ask the same question that a few of the more intelligent people among us have asked. If it was an all European, German, British, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, etc. sports game would the same bias apply, honestly? A few of the "good ol' boys" from down south see the words Black, college, and football in the title and they get offended...WOW! I really hope these are the same guys that were offended when Don Imus called a team with a lot of Black female athletes Nappy-headed ho's. Or I do hope they are severely offended when(or if) they read the history of why there are historically Black/Hispanic, or other ethnic higher-education organizations around today. I guess if something doesn't appeal to the White society of doing things, it's racist? For all the guys on here that pointed out all these same things, my hat goes off to you.
Team Ninja designer tells complaining PS3 devs to 'get out'
Jun 15th 2007 2:08AM (Joystiq)May NPD: Nintendo still on top, industry sales up 49%
Jun 15th 2007 1:07AM (Joystiq)That's right guys, it's not always the most powerful, graphically intimidating, MP3, video playing, almost a computer console that pushes the industry forward. Sometimes it's just the affordable mainstream console that makes it work. As long as Nintendo stays true to that strategy they'll win big everytime. And yes, no matter what happens from this point forward, Nintendo has "WON" this Next-gen console war. Nintendo is the most profitable competitor right now, and price drops wouldn't put a dent in their bottom-line either. They've won. The hardcore guys are just gonna have to live with this simple fact.
