Is the PS3 above the average consumer's 'price ceiling'?

Sep 11th 2007 8:50PM (Joystiq)
I don't really think the PS3's price is, was, or will ever be the problem. Think about it for a second. No one minds paying 4,5, and 600$ for Ipods, Iphones, and higher prices for other Apple products which can be equally matched in terms of software and hardware capabilities from Apple's competitors. Many people are fans of Apple, enjoy there products, and the content they provide with it. Now with the PS3, Wii, and 360 it's the same ordeal. You pay because you like there products and the content.

The thing is right now, both Nintendo and M$ are pretty successful based on the content that they're distributing to their fans. Sony is a little slow out of the gate with their content, not to mention that Sony has gotten a pretty bad rep since the PS3/Blu-Ray fiasco began. Now I'm not defending Sony, but let's admit it, it's not even a year into the PS3's life-cycle and as I remember the 360 got a pretty bad rep for many of the same things. Not to mention M$ is still getting heat(as they should) for something they should've taken care of a long time ago...that being the 360's terrible, unreliable hardware. The Wii is doing many things right and many things wrong at the same time yet because of how they're marketing it, it's still successful. I refuse to believe that price is the issue this time, though I'm very guilty of saying so myself before the last 2 of the new gen systems became available. Let's be honest, if the Wii cost $300 it still would be selling at about the same rate. A lot of people didn't like the fact of a $400 360 in 2005, but as more content became available, more people flocked to it. Sony's in the same boat. Instead of worrying about a new $400 PS3 or a $600 PS3, Sony should really be focusing on providing more content. Bringing easier developmental tools to 3rd parties so they can make better games should be a top priority as well. Price is not the issue and never was.

Black College Football Experience coming in November

Sep 6th 2007 11:30PM (Joystiq)
"So do white people, genius. For instance, the Ivy League schools may be largely white, but that sure as hell doesn't mean they're easy for ANYONE - even whites - to get into."

I wasn't even talking solely about just Ivy League school you racist bastard. There are colleges all across this country that have for the most part an 85% White student body. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as they don't discriminate against other minorities that may want to attend...and many of them do. Watch the news or read a paper sometime, instead of reading/watching White Power-Nazi publications. Fucking idiot!

"You're naming nationalities, not races. If a game was set in Liberia and called "Liberian {any sport they like to play there}", then no one would complain. Heck, if it was set in Africa and called "African Football", no one would complain."

There's a big difference between a race and a nationality...but it's not like you really knew that. Humans, Tigers, Wolve's, and sheep are races of species. White's, Blacks, Italian's, British, and Russian or indeed nationalities. Even though Blacks are of American culture, we have a sub-nationality because we aren't exactly the same as Whites are. But again, I'm sure you knew that.

"Here's the main key: if this game was called "White Football", you can bet there would be an absolute shitstorm. Which means "Black Football" is off-limits too."

If your main gripe is based on just one word of the game, than you're dumber than everyone says you are. If I wanted to complain about Grand Theft Auto showcasing a Black character as a violent, gangsta/thug, carjacking, foul-mouthed guy by the name of Carl Johnson than I'd have a good case to bring to the courts about stereotyping...but I'm not simple like that and I realize that it's just a game. Also, a point I made earlier: Most of the games of the action/adventure/rpg genre depict mostly White/Asian characters as the protagonists without a Black character in sight many times, and that game is often worded differently. If the word Black just scares the hell out of you, that's your fear complex buddy, not mine. The phrase White power means nothing to me, I know who I am, so you could put White on anything you see fit...won't really change nothing.

Black College Football Experience coming in November

Sep 6th 2007 10:51PM (Joystiq)
The ones that are making such a big deal about a game with the word "black" in it are the only racist to me. Nevermind the fact that if you play Madden or any NBA game, 75% of the roster is black. Nevermind the fact that there are "INDEED" historically White colleges, but are worded differently(Blacks and other minorities still have a hard time getting into these schools), nevermind the fact that 90% of the television programming that you watch is geared towards a predominately White audience(unless you're watching sports) with few or little diversity in the line ups. Nevermind the fact 95% of the video games out there are played with a White characters(unless it's a sports game)as the protagonists/heroes. But all of a sudden a game has the words "Black College Football" in the title and everyone(at least the racist/uneducated folks here) has a problem with it. From my perspective, the game doesn't in no way intend to be racist, but is just a game based on the historically Black Colleges.

I'll ask the same question that a few of the more intelligent people among us have asked. If it was an all European, German, British, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, etc. sports game would the same bias apply, honestly? A few of the "good ol' boys" from down south see the words Black, college, and football in the title and they get offended...WOW! I really hope these are the same guys that were offended when Don Imus called a team with a lot of Black female athletes Nappy-headed ho's. Or I do hope they are severely offended when(or if) they read the history of why there are historically Black/Hispanic, or other ethnic higher-education organizations around today. I guess if something doesn't appeal to the White society of doing things, it's racist? For all the guys on here that pointed out all these same things, my hat goes off to you.

Team Ninja designer tells complaining PS3 devs to 'get out'

Jun 15th 2007 2:08AM (Joystiq)
One developer telling others to leave the ring if they're having trouble developing for a complicated system doesn't really sound like sound advice to me. It's almost like giving a suicidal person a loaded gun. If developers are having that much trouble developing for a platform, they might just heed that advice and develop for other platforms. Team Ninja can't really talk too much though. They only have one game so far that's coming to a PS3. It just happens to be a game they've redone twice on the Xbox using pretty much the same engine. Let's see them talk tough when they have to port a game over from the 360 or develop one from the ground up on the PS3. Until then, their words are as useful as s#&t

May NPD: Nintendo still on top, industry sales up 49%

Jun 15th 2007 1:07AM (Joystiq)
I think Nintendo has definitely found the formula for success right now, and they're riding high with that strategy. What Nintendo is doing is good for the industry overall, even though the hardcore gamers out there will surely disagree with me. I guess it sucks to be you hardcore gamers. Nintendo has tried and succeeded in making affordable, easy, easy to program for, reliable, and innovative consoles that have caught on to the mainstream.

That's right guys, it's not always the most powerful, graphically intimidating, MP3, video playing, almost a computer console that pushes the industry forward. Sometimes it's just the affordable mainstream console that makes it work. As long as Nintendo stays true to that strategy they'll win big everytime. And yes, no matter what happens from this point forward, Nintendo has "WON" this Next-gen console war. Nintendo is the most profitable competitor right now, and price drops wouldn't put a dent in their bottom-line either. They've won. The hardcore guys are just gonna have to live with this simple fact.

The Xbox 360 Elite is official, HDMI and 120GB for $479

Mar 28th 2007 12:38AM (Joystiq)
I'm not really an advocate of the PS3 at this moment, but I must admit it's starting to look like the better deal. I could be wrong about this, but at least with the PS3 you can add a larger HDD instead of paying almost $200 for the Xbox 360 HDD. If they put rumble back into the PS3, and get some better games, I may reconsider buying the Elite I was waiting for and go for the PS3...not likely that it will happen, but it's still a thought.

Sony welcomes Xbox 360 to 'Elite' HD experience

Mar 27th 2007 7:30PM (Joystiq)
Ah, nothing has changed. Sony is still pushing their hardware as the be all end all, yet Microsoft and Nintendo continue to slaughter them with better software and sales! Nothing has changed. If the HD argument was really an issue and it was something I really had to have, I would've jumped into high debt and brought both an HDTV as well as a PS3...too bad it's not an issue to me.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma > Ninja Gaiden, true or false?

Mar 26th 2007 10:35PM (Joystiq)
Watching that last video just made me sick at the direction I know industry is moving in. The second(last) video to me was a geek with fat pockets dream. I hear all the talk about the new moves, new character, new weapon, hairstyles, 720p, 720i, and all that other bullshit, but yet I can't get over the fact that this is the same damn game that I played on the Xbox just with a shinier coating. I don't expect many to agree wtih me but this is just sad. Instead of making a completely new game, they rehash the same thing that I've brought and played 2 times already. Now I may sound hypocritical I know, because I did buy Black and I already had the first Gaiden, but most people would agree that Black should have been the first and only Gaiden that was released. The only good thing I can say about this is it's a buy for those that didn't already play the hell out of the first two. The only thing they get is a shinier new coating of a game many have been done with for 3 years now.

Gamestop shenanigans sell open games as 'new'

Mar 25th 2007 3:54PM (Joystiq)
I guess this experience isn't really new to anyone that's ever shopped at Gamestop or EB Games. They tried that trick on me and the only thing I did was say that If a brought a brand new unopened game, took it out the store, open it, and than bring it back, they wouldn't let me get my money back nor would they allow an exchange. I actually said this to the guy behind the counter and he couldn't say shit because he knew that I was right. I did the same thing as what was stated in the article, and left the store without the game. I think I either brought the game online or at Circuit City or Best Buy. I don't remember the game I brought, because this situation happened to me more than once at both EB and GS. Till this day I refuse to buy anything from either store.

Loyalists cry over Devil May Cry on Xbox 360

Mar 22nd 2007 11:02PM (Joystiq)
Fuck those Sony Fanboys, they can't get mad because their prized system isn't selling too well and Capcom is a business that's trying to make a profit. The nerve of some people...or should I say idiots! If they boycott they won't make much of a difference anyways. Most of the bitches complaining are mostly Sony fanboys so if they don't buy the game, that's just gonna hurt Sony because they would still have a console that's not selling games, which further pushes more developers onto the laps of either Microsoft or Nintendo. Fucking idiots!
