Punch-Out!! uppercutting Wii on May 18

Feb 26th 2009 11:53AM (Joystiq)
I like Brawl, Fenix, but I think it's rotten that people are downrating you for expressing your opinion (and you weren't a jerk about it so there's really no excuse for people to wail on you just because you're not a blind Nintendo slave.)

Punch Out!! will be awesome with or without waggle. But if only it had wii-motion plus... Maybe it's a bonus feature for later?

Kanye, Run DMC and Beastie Boys headline Scratch: The Ultimate DJ

Let me state myself better. The game won't polarize black gamers, at least not in and of itself. It will be some black gamers who will use it to polarize others. My complaints are aimed at the bland state of mainstream hip hop (not that rock music is that much better off) and much more so at the "keepin' it real" culture that's dragging down Black America.

It shouldn't, honestly. I'm just sick of black people (in the US at least) getting put into a corner, especially by each other. I'm actually excited for the game but I can already see how some people will use this. Just watch.

Damnit! Just as we were finally getting more black kids into rock music with Guitar Hero this game comes along to sucker them back into hip-hop crap (not all of it, but most of the mainstream stuff today.) Next thing you know Guitar Hero will be classified as a "White game" and some idiot is going to say it's off limits to black kids who want to "Keep it real."

That said, I'm still excited for Tech 9 as he's from my hometown and the game itself looks interesting. But I still think this will inadvertently polarize black gamers.

(And, if you haven't figured it out, I am black, but if a white person said this he'd be just as awesome...I mean right...I mean justified...whatever.)

Nintendo hopes to redefine 'hit game' with search engine-based Kensax

Feb 11th 2009 9:00PM (Joystiq)
This actually looks like a fun party game but they'll have to spiff up the graphics a bit or add something else to it. What? I don't know.

Yeah, you can hate on me all you want. I like the sound of this game. And, no, I do not work for Nintendo. If I did there'd be no more Animal Crossing.

NYCC 09: Cryptic panel covers Champions MMO, reveals Star Trek Online race creator

Feb 8th 2009 7:15PM (Joystiq)
Both games look interesting. I probably wouldn't play more than a demo for either but the customization looks great. Champions definitely looks like a great evolution from City of Heroes. As for Star Trek, I'm not sure how it would play out but it sounds exciting and different. The custom race feature really sounds fun.

My hope, however, is that Cryptic someday does a stand-alone game with these customization features. I hate the fees off MMOs and I don't like being forced into multiplayer since I don't play games as much as I used to. But if they were to do one that I could play on my own time without needing the help of others (or a constant influx of cash) then I'd buy it as soon as it was on the shelf.

Starting? Wow, you really believe in the goodness of humanity. Such a shame.

See how Spore evolves with 'Galactic Adventures'

Jan 27th 2009 8:55PM (Joystiq)
I agree but I kinda expected this for good or ill. I wonder if they always had it planned this way or if GA is a response to the harsh-but-accurate criticism of the game. I'm looking forward to this but it's gonna hurt my wallet.

And the DRM doesn't scare me.

Four new Spore titles on Wii, DS and PC this year

Jan 22nd 2009 8:31PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, yeah, everyone's down on Spore. I don't blame you because most of the game is dull and "casual." However, I have been enjoying the creative parts of the game both as I've used them and as I've seen what others do with them. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high but Galactic Adventures (while needing a better name) looks to at least have some cool features. I'm all about the WEAPONS slot. That's bad ass. And the adventure creator might be lame but since it involves more player creativity I will be all over that. And if it sucks? Well, it'll all be better by Spore 2...after it's second EP.

Study: Violence and gore don't make games more enjoyable

Jan 18th 2009 10:42PM (Joystiq)
Why does it take studies like this to prove what so many of us have known forever? I enjoy my head shot kills and exploding stomachs just as much as I like mushrooms and katamaris, but those things aren't what make games fun. They just make them interesting. What's fun is giving me a challenge and letting me get there with just the right amount of difficulty. And, for me, if I can be creative or enjoy a great story at the same time then I'm all for it.
